    Storage spaces preparing for removal


    Im running my media pc with storage spaced but 1 of my 500 GB drives failed so time to replace so got a 3tb drive and added it to my pool then left to optimize but 10.8% later the new drive failed *Sad having 2 drives fail took the whole storage pool away leaving me without all my files, i posted of the buggered drive, i now have the replacement here but optimization wont start at all and i cannot remove either failed drive as i dont have the space so i need to add a new drive, so i added 3 drives 1.8tb total but i still cant remove or optimize, so im in a pickle and i dont like pickles...

    Windows Storage Spaces - Preparing for removal stuck at 0,05%

    Hi,

    I had the same problem. Took me a bit to figure it out. Windows told me that the drive is degraded so I removed it. In my case it was because there were bad sectors forming. I was stuck on 2%. Windows is trying to move data located on bad sectors to the
    other drives in the array. I simply cloned the drive I needed to remove to a healthy one, plugged it back in and finally I was able to remove the failing disk. Or should I say "the now healthy disk"? But at least it wasn't stuck anymore.

    Storage Spaces - "Preparing for Removal" is stalled

    Hello,

    I have a two-way mirror setup in Storage Spaces in Windows 10. I noticed that I was getting extremely long response times when accessing data on the volume or writing to the volume, so I checked the SMART status of the HDDs in the pool and found one of them
    was in a "Warning" state.

    I decided to add a new disk to the pool and remove the failing one through the Storage Spaces GUI. The usage of the failing drive has dropped from 81.3% down to 44.2%, but it stalled here and its SMART status is now "Bad." The Get-StorageJob cmdlet in PowerShell
    shows that the Repair/Regeneration job is 71% complete and it's stuck here.

    My question is this: can I remove the physical HDD from the computer and restore full resiliency to the Storage Space with the "Optimize drive usage" command? Or do I risk data corruption since the pool is in the middle of an operation, and the failed drive
    has clearly not been fully unloaded?
