Windows 10: Straight After 2023-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems...

HelloI am very confused at the moment due to having downloaded "2023-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems KB5030211" and after the restart, my physical speaker, or driver for physical speaker, began to play up after the laptop went to sleep, in the evening22nd September 2023, The Windows download started a like a normal download, prompted a restarted cycle and restarted again no issues, until i closed the lid of the laptop that evening, as i have done hundreds of times before, sending the laptop to sleep.Device name DESKTOP-8K2A4J9 Processor IntelR CoreTM

Why would an in-place Upgrade solve this problem? I did all the steps listed here but not the in-place update. The error I see in the Windows update window is "Download error - 0x8024401c" for 2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5023706). Its been logging this error since 3/17/2023

Note that on 2/15 everything seemed fine:

2023-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5030219) Is Now Available

The 2023-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5030219) update downloads and then fails during installation, leaving a Retry option. I have rebooted many times and retried the update with the same result.

 

2023-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5030211) not installing....

The date was 14/9/2023...

2023-09 .NET 6.0.22 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5030559)

...had just installed successfully

However...

2023-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5030211)

...would not install, depsite having downloaded OK, and prompting for Restart in SysTray. PC would Restart, appear to be updating but then not install the update, and then immediately prompt to Restart again in SysTray, once back in Windows. This just kept on happening, whether clicking Restart in Windows Update & Security window, or via Update & Restart or Shutdown in Start Menu.

I tried running Windows Update TroubleShooter. It says it fixed an issue, but didn't fix anything. Subsequent Troubleshooting reported no issues, but the update still fails.

Eventually tried stopping several update services and renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder.

Rebooted. No longer prompting for restart. Tries to download it again, but now repeatedly getting error 0x800703e6 when trying to re-download update.

Tried running Windows Update TroubleShooteragain.

Again, it says it fixed an issue, but it didn't fix anything. Subsequent Troubleshooting reported no issues, but the update still fails.

Tried running CMD prompt (as Admin) and running the recommended DISM fix, and SFC fix. DISM reports error "dism error 998 invalid access to memory location"

SFC scan fix does not work either.

Tried downloading the update from the Catalog, and installing it manually. It says the update is 'not applicable for my computer,' even though I selected the correct one:

Why has this suddenly happened, and how do I fix it when the suggested fixes are not working? I am really not keen on a total re-install of Windows.
