Okay, so this is an odd one.

50% of the time, my reboots are met with "system memory has changed". When I'm in windows, I have a myriad of strange issues resulting in beeps. Press the windows key too many times and my system lags hard and beeps at every input til it chills out (There is no resource spike during this time). When I have 2 windows open and click the other one it takes a second to register that Im on the new window. If I try to move a window that isnt the one I currently have selected, it wont move for a full 2 seconds. Pretty much all of my system interactions have this tiny delay now that was not there before. Opening Task Manager or Explorer is met with a beep.

I did 2 things the day this started (Dec 16). I ran the windows update (for a recent update) and then I installed the FitGirl Repack of Cyberpunk 2077 (I own the game on PS5 and wanted to see if my PC would be better. No intention of pirating this game).

After the repack, there is a registry entry step involved. After this I restarted my pc. On boot it gave me the "System memory has changed" error. I updated my bios a week ago, but I hadnt seen any issues til now. I know my registry would have no impact on that, but Im wondering if the other symptoms im experiencing could be a result of the RAM error?

My other fear is that I have some kind of cryptojacking malware from the download. It was a trusted source, but who knows.

I guess what I'm asking is: has anyone experienced this with the new update or as a result of dying RAM or anything else?

    Halp.

(For reference, this youtube video happens to show my exact beeping symptoms, but is not my video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuolB3uESyA&ab_channel=JevgenijsBeļaņins)

On Restart Pressing Windows Key Causes System Beep Until Used in a Key Combination

After I restart my computer, pressing the Windows key causes a system beep. It will do this until pressed in combination with another key like the D key for desktop, or E for File Explorer, and so on. It will make a system beep and then a lower beep.

Then there are no more system beeps.

I've only heard something like this once before a long time ago, but it was pressing any keys. The cause was faulty RAM, but I'm reasonably sure that's not the case here, after doing a memory test. And the laptop is only a couple months old.

    System Reserved Memory issue

    Hi Rowan,

The reduction in available system memory depends on the configuration of the following:

    • The devices that are installed in the computer and the memory that is reserved by those devices
    • The ability of the motherboard to handle memory
    • The system BIOS version and settings
    • The version of Windows 10 that is installed
    • Other system settings

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest that you check your system for memory problems.

    Here's how:

    • Type mdsched.exe in the search bar and select the best match.
    • When prompted by the User Account Control, enter an admin user name and password, and click
      Yes.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to run it.

Let us know how it goes.
