Strange ethernet card behaviour after resuming from hibernate

I have observed this strange behaviour after the laptop resumes from hibernate. The ethernet adaptor is given the unassigned to the automatic private IP address range 169.254.x.x which means DHCP failed. This is confirmed when I tried to renew the DHCP via command line and the request timed out. I am concurrently able to obtain access via wireless connection with the same router that is connected via LAN cable. The laptop passes through a switch before reaching the router. But I don't think it should have an impact. Other devices that are connected via the same switch are able to come IP addr

Hibernating laptop changes to sleep behaviour after Windows 10 May 2019 update

    Hi Aditya,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried the two steps (turning of Hybrid sleep and Fast startup) you suggested but to no avail. Okay, for your two questions:

    1. My laptop is a HP Pavilion 14-bf101tx, and currently running Windows 10 1903 (upgrading from 1809).
    2. Nope. No error messages. I suppose the boot process was successful, however, my battery was reduced. That's why I suggest the post title as "Hibernating changes to sleep behaviour" because the battery level reduction looks like sleep behaviour.

Please inform me of any diagnostics information you might need. Thank you for your kind assistance.

    Resume from Hibernate Issue

This indicates that your computer is restarting i.e. resume from hibernation is failing.

Your initial step ought to be to go to the computer maker's support website to download then reinstall the latest display adapter driver. While you are there, check for any updated bios.

Windows 10 fails to resume from hibernation

    Hello,

Failing to resume from Hibernate in Windows 10 may be caused by an outdated driver or operating system component or that an application is causing the resume from Hibernate to fail. For us to isolate the issue in failing to resume from Hibernate, kindly
    respond to the questions below:

    • Have you made any significant changes to your device prior to the issue? If yes, what are they?
    • Are there any third-party applications installed on your device?
    • Have you checked if Windows 10 is updated? Go to Settings >
      Update & security
      > Check for updates.

We look forward to your response.
