Strange problem with one USB 3.0 port and one USB flash stick

Not sure this can be fixed as a "windows 10" matter, but here goes:

i have a lexar 8gb USB 3.0 flash drive. i have used it for many things and formatted it different ways and on different laptops. most recently i used it as the 'install windows 10' media.

yesterday i put it into one of my laptops' 3.0 ports. nothing showing! not in diskmanagement, not in diskpart and not even in AOMEI partition assistant. the drive was not detected at all.

now it gets stranger. first, i plugged the stick into all the other USB ports (2.0 and 3.0). all the other ones worked!

so then i thought the port has a problem? i plugged different devices into that port, and they worked!

in other words, the problem is that this ONE usb flash stick suddenly does not work in this ONE usb port !!

i already tried the normal stuff like formatting, cleaning. this is just too strange for me. i also found a MS page that says 'uninstall the USB drivers; disable the USB suspended power settings'. did not work. at least the page shows there can be such a problem:

how do u update from usb 2 to usb 3

    Hi,

USB 3.0 devices are backward compatible with USB 2.0. Therefore your USB 3.0 flash drive should work connected

to your USB 2.0 PC. (It will only work at USB 2.0 specs, but it should work.)

The only way to get USB 3.0 ports on a notebook, laptop, tablet PC is to buy a system that already has USB 3.0 ports.

Desktop PC motherboards that only come with USB 2.0 ports can usually be upgraded to USB 3.0 by simply installing

a USB 3.0 PCI add in card to one of the motherboards available PCI slots (or buying a new Desktop motherboard

    with USB 3.0 ports.)

However, if you don't mind the much slower USB 2.0 performance your USB 3.0 Flash drive will have it should still

be detected & work connected to your USB 2.0 PC. This is a hardware issue, no update or software alone can

change a USB 2.0 port into a USB 3.0 port.

  3. Update KB4015438 will not install

One more thing that may or may not be relevant.

Win10 can see a flash drive in Control Panel, it appears in a section called "Unspecified". I tested with is a USB 3.0 stick and it is plugged into a USB 3.0 port on the computer case and tested with a USB 2.0 stick and both gave a different ID. The 3.0
said "Ultra" and the 2.0 said "USB Mass Storage Device".

The Microsoft stick also was seen and ID'd as "Microsoft 10".

How do I get the rest of the computer to see this?
