Strange right click issue on Windows 10

    Hello everyone,

I hope somebody will be able to help me with this because this is really making my work on my laptop very very difficult.

So I have this strange issue where every time I try to right click on a file or on a blank space inside a folder to create a new folder for example, it freezes (in case of a folder goes to "Not responding") and then blinks and nothing happens.

The right click only works properly when I try to right click on my desktop or on a folder that is on my desktop, in every other case I am experiencing this issue.

I have tried to follow instructions in these videos - Slow Right click on Windows 10 Fix - YouTube
    - How to fix windows 8.1 and 10 right click loading problem - YouTube

    But neither fixed the issue.

Maybe it is because my right click is not just slow, it never loads and goes to "Not responding" mode immediately.

I have also tried to create a new folder inside a folder by clicking on the icon in the top left but got the same results.

Also in case of the first video, I have noticed I do not have the folder "New" under Context MenuHandlers in the regedit if that means anything.

I´d be glad for any help I can get,

thanks and have a great day!

windows 10, right click in explorer, strange issue

    Hi,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

Method 1: Perform System Maintenance troubleshooter.

I would suggest you to perform System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer and check if it fixes the issue.

Please follow the steps to perform System maintenance check to improve performance of the computer:

    • Press Windows and x key together and select Control Panel.

    • Click on Troubleshooting.

    • Click on View all on the left side panel.

    • Click on System Maintenance and follow the onscreen instructions.

Method 2: Check in safe mode and clean boot mode of the computer

Step 1: Safe mode is a diagnostic mode for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. This helps us in identifying whether the issue is
due to some third party programs conflict. The word Safe mode appear in the concern of your monitor to identify which windows mode you are using.

Follow the steps given below and check if that helps.

    • Type settings in search and click on Settings.
    • Click Update and recovery, and then tap or
      click Recovery.
    • Under Advanced startup, tap or click Restart now.
    • Once your PC restarts, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click
      Troubleshoot.
    • If you don't see the Startup Settings option, tap or click advanced options.
    • Tap or click Startup Settings.
    • Tap or click Restart.
    • On the Startup Settings screen, choose the Safe Mode.
    • Sign in to your PC with a user account that has administrator rights.

You can restart the computer to put it back in
    normal mode.

If the issue doesn’t occur in safe mode, follow step 2.

    Step 2: Perform Clean Boot

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a “clean boot” in Windows

Refer to Windows 8.1 steps, as they are applicable to Windows 10.

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

If this lets you log in, follow the steps below.

If the issue persists, follow method 3.

    Method 3: SFC scan

I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The
sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. It is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore
    corrupted files.

Refer the link: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted
    system files

Refer to Windows 8.1 steps, as they are applicable to Windows 10.

Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to help you further.

windows 10, right click in explorer, strange issue

basically, upgraded to windows 10, everything ran fine for a few weeks then suddenly when i right click the left panel on any of my drives it auto closes explorer, gives me red screen, same color as my desktop color choice, comes back, most of my task bar
icons are gone, takes a little while for them to return, then i notice the start button won't open when i click it, search doesn't work and notifications are set to (off) even though i never changed said setting for notifications. a reboot fixes this, but
the second I right click in that left panel it freaks out again.

any help? can't seem to find anything with my specific issue.

    Hey there!

I forgot to mention that sometimes after I´d turn my pc off and then on again, the issue would not appear immediately but would start occuring after some time.

After I tried the solutions I described above I restarted my pc and the issue appeared to be gone until today.

I have already tried the Shellex view thing but I had to enable Nvidia Shell extension in order to be able to access my graphics settings.

In the past, NVIDIA shell extension is the one that caused the trouble. You don't need to have it display on the taskbar or from context menu. You can always access the Ndivia Control via control panel: Win+X ->Control->Ndivia Control Panel

    NOTE:
If you read some of the posts in that thread, you'll find out quite a few people having the same problem with NVIDIA Extension
