That doesn`t matter, his C partition should show the same amount, and it doesn`t, it`s way wrong.

The unlettered partitions and unallocated space have nothing to do with C Windows 10.

When he`s booted into 10 (C in this case) that`s considered "This PC", so why is it showing 139GB in one place and 78GB in DM ?

It`s all there in DM, nothing`s hiding.

Are you, by any chance relocating your user folder to another drive? Are you relocating any library folders? or using additional library folders on another drive?

No, users isn't moved. But in Windows 7 I did relocate Libraries to the M: data drive to keep system images smaller.

Correct, plus true used space for Linux section is in Gparted. I don't expect Windows to know about it.
    That said,
I think I see how STORAGE reports funny numbers. If you look at the data in my post#1 about what storage reported and then the true values of C: partition in Explorer or DiskMgmt AND add the space Linux Mint uses, it matches their math. Like this:
    Windows 10 total space 78.4 + 61.5 mint = 139.9 gig -- this is slightly acceptable.
Windows 10 used space 25.2 + 61.5 mint = 86.7 gig -- this addition is insane considering diskmgt sees Linux as not used.

Ok, so add the space used by your library's to the space on C: and see if it matches

Why do you suggest to add the Windows 7 libraries' space, and add to what?
FYI, it's 21GB but not on the C: drive.

I have TreeSizeFree. I gather from your link that it's similar. I prefer not to install things too much. What to look for in the context of this thread?

You need to use either TreeSizeFree or WinDirStat to find out what is taking up drive space. Regardless of the size calculations, Linux is always going to calculate different from Windows, because of the design of the tool difference. There is really no more that can be stated since everything has been put on the table for you to be able to look at the files on the partitions to find out why there is a difference in actual used space.

I understand. It's just that I thought that in post#17 I reconciled the numbers in Storage and Explorer. But then I failed to understand the need from the subsequent suggestions.

As was already stated, you cannot use Storage or Explorer to get the real numbers. Use one of the tools to find out what is eating up space. Linux uses a completely different algorithm when calculating partition size, because it does not place such a huge overhead out there as Windows does.

This is a old argument that the poor horse is dead and we have given you enough information to let you know that A) there is nothing wrong with how space is being calculated for your partition in Windows, because the calculator matches what you see in Windows. Without seeing the table info in Linux, there is no way of matching the calculator to the tale info in Linux.
