Strange update screen - is this the norm now?

    Morning all,

First post here, view the forums from time to time - turned on the laptop this morning and having left it for about half and hour on the desktop screen was shocked to return and see the screen I haven't seen since I upgraded to 10 last year. The only difference is its 'updating' rather than 'upgrading' Windows - not the usual update screen though?

It's copied the files, installed drivers and is now configuring settings.

Is this the new way to deliver updates? Because it looks like it's installing ten all over again!

    :)

  2. Will there be another N95-3 update?

No, for them to 'reply' would be strange
Because it has become the norm (normal) for them to ignore/ never read thier support forums

Hi, are you on a fast track build release or an Insider?
    Did you have this set?

What was your Windows build? What is it now?
    (Windows key + R, type Winver, post the build number - mine's 1511, 10586.164)

    Hi,

    Nope not on insider preview

No 'automatic' was set - not too worried about it updating when it is switched on - what freaked me out was seeing what looks like the Windows 10 upgrade screen again! However it didn't say 'upgrade ', but 'update' - but copied files, installed drivers and redid the settings.

My build is the same as your's : 1511 10586.164

Unexpected..! Has anything else changed.. for example, is system restore now off whereas you might have had it on... maybe file associations are set back to MS default?

I'd certainly recommend using the setting as above so you don't experience a sudden restart in the middle of a 20 page document...

Did you have a Win 10 bootable medium present anywhere?

    Thanks for the replies.

Well the desktop wallpaper went back to the default setting for starters.

I'll check system restore - used it about 6 months back so should have been on.

Just checked Windows update - no update history !
