Windows 10: Stuck at "To sign in, scan your finger on the fingerprint reader" login screen.

It happens randomly at the login screen. Most of the time, touching the fingerprint sensor logs me in, but randomly, it keeps showing "To sign in, scan your finger on the fingerprint reader". If I touch the sensor, it just flickers once and keeps showing the same screen. This is different from failing, because normally, failing three times asks me to type the password, but in this case, it just keeps showing the same screen.

It seems that if I click "Sign-in options" below and then the key icon to show the password input box, then touching the sensor works and lets me log in.

Is this a bug of Windows 10?

Finger print sign-in

Hi,

Since your computer is not accepting your fingerprint anymore, what we can do is to remove all fingerprints from your account and set up a fingerprint again. See steps below:

Removing a fingerprint:

• Open the Settings app, and select Accounts.
• Click on Sign-in options on the left side, and click on
  Remove for Fingerprint under Windows Hello.

Setting up a fingerprint:

• Open the Settings app, and select Accounts.
• Click on Sign-in options on the left side, and click on Set up
  for Fingerprint under Windows Hello.
• Click on Get started.
• Enter your PIN to verify it's you.
• Scan your finger on the fingerprint reader. You will need to scan your finger a few times to set up with Windows Hello.
  
• When all set, click on Close.

No option for fingerprint scan login

  Hardware and devices troubleshooter. In the
  File Download dialog box, select Open and follow the on-screen instructions.
  
• If the fingerprint reader isn’t working, detach and reattach your Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID from your Surface Pro 4 and try using the fingerprint reader again.
  
• If reattaching your Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID doesn’t solve the problem, try typing or using the touchpad. If neither the keyboard nor the touchpad on your Cover works, see
  
  Troubleshoot your Surface Cover.

If the IR camera or the fingerprint reader still aren’t working:

Step 1:
Sign in to your Surface using a different method (such as a PIN or password).

Step 2:
Remove the scan of your face or fingerprint and set up a new scan, following the steps in

Windows Hello doesn’t recognize your face or fingerprint, and there is an error message.

Step 3:
Sign in using Windows Hello.

If you still can’t sign in using Windows Hello, you may be having a software issue. How to fix software issues

• Make sure you have the latest Surface and Windows updates installed. To learn how, see
  
  Install Surface and Windows updates.
• If the IR camera or fingerprint reader worked previously, run a system restore. To learn how, see
  
  Restore or reset Surface Pro or Surface 3.
  
• After a system restore, if the IR camera or fingerprint reader still isn’t working, reset your Surface. To learn how, see
  
  Restore or reset Surface Pro or Surface 3.

2. Click on the hand icon to start Fingerprint Login Manager.

3. Touch the reader with any registered finger to display the Fingerprint Login Manager dialog box.

4. Click the account that you want to change, and then click Change.

5. In the Edit sign-in with a fingerprint dialog box, change the current account information in the appropriate text boxes.

6. Click on OK.

If you want to delete logins with a fingerprint, perform these actions:

1. Open the login screen of the website or program that has the login with fingerprint you want to change.

2. Click on the hand icon to start Fingerprint Login Manager.

3. Touch the reader with any registered finger to display the Fingerprint Login Manager dialog box.

4. Click the account that you want to remove, and then click Remove.

5. Click Yes.
