  2. All well and good, but can we get back to topic?

I cannot seem to get Windows 10 to load up. It gets as far as 11 to13% on the creating windows 10 media window, then freezes. The fans come up loud, as though it is under load, and it just sits there.
My problem seems to be hardware related at this point, and I am lost as to how to continue. I can usually fix these things by process of elimination, but I am stumped. Memory? Video card?
My system is ASUS Sabertooth MB, with AMD FX-9590 cpu, 32 gigs Gskil DDR3 ram, 1000 watt PSU (platinum certified), GTX770 EVGA graphics, and a few drives. The cpu is liquid cooled, and never gets above 45C, so that isn't over heating. Everything is new except the video card and the drives, and have worked flawlessly for the past few months, until now.

  5. I think I am having serious hardware issues...the copy of 8.1 that I installed to a spare drive is freezing...it gets as far as the tile screen....then freezes.
I have an ISO copy burned to DVD, but it is zipped, no?
I managed to get the original disc (ssd) to safe mode with command, did a chkdsk /f/r, completes, but then also freezes up when it starts to run.
If I use the reset button, it freezes(every drive) immediately.
Some hardware issue, I believe, is causing everything to freeze, but what?

If you have the ability, I would take the computer completely apart, all the way down to bare motherboard with an empty CPU socket. Use compressed air to blow all the dust off and out if every socket, then put it back together and try again.

  7. She isn't old enough for dust to really be an issue...less than 4 months. Every time I boot it up, I have to reset or restore win 8.1 on the spare drive. I have the SSD disconnected, as well as my game drive and documents/photos drives.
What can cause an OS to get so screwed up in so little time......the drive was formatted before the install....

  8. Stuck in Limbo between 8.1 and 10!

I managed to get a USB drive set up, and now, the recovery key I got when I first loaded in 10, does not work! so I am stuck up the creek once again. If I had a product key, I could be up and running on 10---for as long as it will take to crash and burn again....
Every time I try to download google, it freezes........
I have removed and flipped mem sticks around, no change, I have tried an old video card, no change. I just do not know what else to do...

If a Win 10 upgrade was ever installed and activated on the machine, you don't need a key to do a clean install of 10 again on the same hardware. ("Hardware" mostly means "motherboard".) Just press the little "skip" button when the installer asks for a key. The fresh 10 install should activate online.

(You can actually do that on a PC that has never had 10 on it, but it wouldn't activate.)

  10. Hi

A few months ago, while still using XP I was having very similar problems to yourself and I was using a mega High End Video Card which cost about £150.

I'd had this Card for quite sometime and everything worked fine, then one day it all fell apart and I was getting Crashing and Looping and Rebooting, as well as something called Stringing.

The one thing that I did not do, was ever suspect that the Video Card was at fault but I was lucky enough to speak with a Guy in a Computer Store, who managed to nail the problem just by what I told him.

So I bought another Video Card but this time an 'el cheapo' Solid State one without a Fan £25.

According to what he told me, you only need a High End one for Gaming (which I don't do) and so as soon as I plugged it in, all the problems I was having disappeared.

So maybe its time to treat yourself to a New One?

  11. I tried changing cards...no good .. and I do game a lot so I need hi end. As far it loading back into the pc without a key...... I get a windows compatibility report that says the pc started with installation media, remove it and start windows normally, then reinsert installation media.....if I could do that, I wouldn't be going through all this! I tried this on both the ssd drive that had 10 on it, and the spare HDD, both are on the same MB, so that trick isn't going to do it....and the recovery key given to me by MS is worth squat.

I am thinking that my CPU may have gone south...it seems to freeze up anytime I attempt to download a file, like its working too hard, gets the fans flying and, if I leave it alone long enough, it shuts the PC down.

I have moved mem sticks around, tried different ones in different spots, and I tried a different video card, all with little difference

  12. Two Hard Drives on the Same Motherboard, could be the Cause of your problem.

I used to have Four Hard Drives on the Same Motherboard, so I could choose which one I wanted to Boot from, which is when I got problems, which may or may not be related to yours.

So now I've changed my Set Up to removable Caddies, so that only One hard drive is active at any one time.

Maybe you could try Installing Windows 10 with only One HD connected, you seem to have tried everything else, you never know it might work.

  13. Stuck in Limbo between 8.1 and 10!

I have been doing just that.....One drive is hooked up at a time. This way, I don't accidently delete something I need from the other drive. ...... and I keep track of what I am doing better.
Every time I get things going in the right direction, the PC freezes up on me. I more or less have isolated the problem to the CPU.
I think its freezing things up when it has to work a little hard. It seems to freeze during either a download, or usually, during the installation of anything I did mange to download! Then I have to reboot, and many times, I have to repair windows. I almost had the 10 copy on my HDD, but froze during installation, and when I rebooted..... it reverted back to 8.1

Tried different cards, and mem, with no difference. It will not run a whole process thru before freezing.

The MoBo could be an issue, but the ASUS Saber-tooth has a much better reputation than the AMD FX9590 cpu, so I am going with an AMD FX 8350, (or something like that)...... a little slower,(and cheaper) but far more reliable. The 9590 runs HOT as Heck and has a rep for freezing up systems.

  14. Hi

While a New Computer, makes a lot of Sense, if the Processor is over heating you could Try a Heat Sink and Fan, or as a Short Term Measure Run With The Sides Off The Case. (which is what I do)

If you get into the Bios you will be able to see how Hot the Processor is running.

Boot>keep hitting delete>Use arrow keys to Navigate.

    Esc (escape to come out)

    F10 (exit and save)

Although you sound as if you know your way around a Computer.

  15. I don't think the CPU is actually overheating, as much as it's overclocked from the factory....the 9590 is essentially a lesser processor pushed to the max. I have it liquid cooled (Corsair H100), so I think it's just unstable. It is rated at 250 watts, and most processors run about half that--or less. I have read a few reviews stating just that....it is too close to the edge right from the factory, and is prone to freezing/locking up systems.

I guess I will find out later today, when my new CPU arrives, and I install!

If THAT doesn't work, either the Mobo is blown, or the darn thing is possessed!
