Windows 10: Stuck in preparing automatic repair loop, unable to get recovery environment to load.

I have an HP laptop running windows 10 and earlier today it began malfunctioning severely over the span of an afternoon; a brief summary of what happened follows1 The laptop started running so slowly that even the start menu and task manager would not open, so I turned off power. 2 When I turned power back on, I got to past the HP logo but then got stuck on an indefinite "please wait" loop.3 When I used the recovery environment for startup repair, THAT got stuck in an infinite loop.4 When I turned off my laptop and tried to re-enter the recovery environment to just do a fresh install of wi

Preparing automatic repair appears when something goes wrong with your PC and the system attempts to resolve it by itself. Upon checking the Community, we have found a related thread which includes a suggestion that can resolve your issue.

Stuck at Preparing Automatic Repair screen(Not loading)

Try entering Safe Mode to repair

Press the power button to turn on your PC, then hold the power button down until PC shuts down automatically (about 5 seconds). Repeat this more than 2 times until you see the Preparing Automatic Repair (see below screenshot).

Note: This step is aim to bring up Preparing Automatic Repair screen. When Windows doesn’t boot properly, this screen pops up and Windows attempts to fix the problem by itself. If you’ve seen this screen for the first time when you power up the computer, skip
this step.

.- Then wait for Windows to diagnose your PC.

.- Click Advanced options, then the system will bring up the Windows RE (Recovery environment.) screen.

.- On the Windows RE (Recovery environment) screen, click Troubleshoot.

.- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Advanced options.

.- Click Startup Settings to continue.

.- Click Restart. The computer restarts and another screen opens showing a list of different startup options.

.- On your keyboard, press the 4 number key to enter Safe Mode without network. (If you need to do some online research after boot into the safe mode, press the 5 number key to enter Safe Mode with network access.)
