Windows 10: Stuck in safe boot

So I had an issue with my wifi adapter so it was recommended to me to boot into safe mode. I entered via msconfig.

After I booted up I was greeted with the login screen but no matter what password I typed in, none worked. I reset my Microsoft password and booted into safe mode with networking, but this did not help. The network icon showed that I was not connected but when I clicked on it it showed I was. I filled in the password but it didn't work.

When trying to boot to command prompt or else, I didn't get far because I was prompted with a login page for each option. Which all worked as well as the first one.

I found that for some people booting from a USB solved it. I still had a USB with a Windows 10 installation laying around so I tried that.

I couldn't do "bcdedit" because it gave the error "the boot configuration could not be opened" and with the full bcdedit command to delete the safeboot value it gave the error "the specified entry identifier is not valid".

How can I possibly get out of this horrible safe mode? I have no clue what to do now and I really don't want to lose my files.

Computer got stuck on Safe Mode

Hi David,

Sorry for the delay in response.

As your computer is stuck in Safe Mode, try these steps.

• Press Win + R key on the keyboard and in the run Window type
  msconfig.
• Click the Boot tab and uncheck Safe boot if it is selected.

Safe mode is intended to help fix most, if not all problems within an operating system, it's not good if we got stuck on it. To correct this, we suggest that you follow the steps below to exit out of Safe mode:

• Open Run command by pressing Windows key + R
  keys on the keyboard and type msconfig in the command box and press
  Enter.
• Under General tab, put a check on Normal Startup option.
• Reboot the system and check if the changes are effective.

Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10  


I am stuck in Safe Mode in spite of following all the suggested steps to go back to Normal Startup - Like opening file location of msconfig.exe & running as Administrator. The computer I am trying to get out of safe mode has just been updated from Windows 7.
