Windows 10: Stuck on "Working on Updates" for 9 hours

So I finally decided to run the windows update last night and when I woke up today it is only at 30% and I have yet to see it progress any further. It says dont turn off PC, however I'm not going to wait more days for some update. Anything I can try before just rebooting it?

Windows 10 updates stuck at 91% for 7 hours

Microsoft was of no help to me at all (yet again). Pointing at others, in this case 3rd party antivirus software is a typical attempt to hide their own incompetence.

Another few hours of productivity lost thanks to Microsoft!

Stuck on, "working on it"

Upgrading a Windows 7 system. Reached "Upgrade is available" and clicked "OK Let's continue". Perhaps unwisely, this window is suggesting I have approx 10 seconds to wait until I see signs of progress or the next step. Real life has not been so quick:

Attempt 1 the "working on it" sign with the spinner carried on for at least 9 hours (left it running overnight, giving 18 hours lapse time, though the system had gone to sleep at some point, probably 3 hours after I went to bed....)

Shut the upgrade Window, Restarted the PC & tried again - two and a half hours so far.

As the only user feedback is "Working on it" and the endlessly tumbling dots that go round in circles without achieving anything, it's impossible to know whether anything is actually happening (and taking , or whether the process has got stuck.

Not clear to me whether this is the same problem as The Windows 10 upgrade appears to hang
(which basically says that the upgrade might take as long as 24 hours (!!!!!), just let it keep running).

Apart from any advice, might I suggest to the Microsoft team -

• It would be a good idea to sound less certain about that "10 secs" prediction if it might be so badly wrong on some systems
• Some more user feedback on the "Working on it" screen would be helpful to diagnose whether the process is running really slow, or is not making progress.

 

Windows Phone Update 7.10.8112.7 stuck at step 9

Just got the notification from Zune to update my HTC Titan to version 7.10.8112.7. However, the update stuck at step 9 and stayed in that state for 2 hours. I decided to cancel the update, the phone stayed in the restart state (white screen with HTC logo)
and not able to boot. I tried taking out the battery and that doesn't help either. Fortunately I was able to restore my phone to the previous backup using the bootloader (Hold volume down and power button). I want to update my phone to the latest update. Anyone
encountered this before and manage to resolve this eventually?
