  1. Sudden Battery drop to 0%

On 9 December when I switch on my laptop, it was having some 25% charging. I opened Edge browser and within 5 minutes the battery died. This never happened before to me. Usually 25% battery would survive for 1 and a half hours with Microsoft edge.I did the battery test and found there's a sudden drop in full charge capacity on the same day this happened. The next day, the same drop happened and this time also full charge capacity dropped.Today on 14th December, this happened for the 3rd time and this time also there was a drop in full charge capacity. Please note, all these battery drains happen

    Sudden battery drop to zero

I have Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52 laptop running 64 bit windows 10 version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1165)I am facing an unusual battery drain to sudden 0. This began happening yesterday and happened again today. I suppose the battery drops to zero from 50-60%. There's no warning. The laptop just closes all of a sudden.Every time I work with my laptop plugged in the wall charging. I don't turn off the charging even it's full and continue to use it as it is. I only use my laptop on battery when I'm commuting, and that's exactly when I have faced this issue. I bought this laptop in April 2019. I'm enclosing the battery report html as a zip generated using Windows Powershell. Please suggest a solution.

    It's right near the top.

If you had run a battery report when the battery was brand new, you would have seen its Full charge capacity matching its Design capacity. That ratio reduces as the battery gets used. Yours is currently 20034/48944 ≅ 40%

There's no generally-applicable magic number at which the battery is deemed to be too worn out for further use. In your case I think you'd make your decision based on time rather than charge level - it would be when the battery did not last the whole of your journey.

    Sudden battery drop to zero

    dlross is correct.

Your battery is only capable of charging to 40% of what it could do when it was new.
    - This is normal. A battery generally lasts for 300-500 charge-discharge cycles. I also used to wear mine out quite quickly when I was a commuter.
    - The charge indicator in your SystemTray [aka Notification area] is not showing you what you might think. When it displays 100%, it means 100% of what it's currently capable of not 100% of what it was designed to do.
    - When batteries are this worn out there is no telling how they will behave. Somebody else with one in the same state might find that theirs is gracefully allowing them to use what little remains in it without drastic sudden drops.
So I agree that you need to get a new battery.

I know nothing about Acer support but my main computer is, like yours, a laptop with an internal battery [albeit from Dell]. I was able to find a service manual in the Dell website that showed me how to change the battery. Perhaps Acer produce one that will guide you.
    - All I have to do is remove the 12 screws securing the bottom of the laptop then prise it off an undocumented internal latch and then I can see the battery so I can unscrew it & pull off its connectorthen fit its replacement, screw it down, connect it, put the bottom of the laptop back in place, thump it onto the undocumented internal latch and screw up the twelve screws holding the bottom in place.

I also bought some powerpacks [a posh word for a battery on a lead] that Dell produce that supply the 19.5V that the computer needs. I'd rather wear out something external and easily swappable than degrade the internal battery. Perhaps Acer sell an equivalent?

    Best of luck,
    Denis
