Sudden Crashes and Display Issues After Connecting Ethernet Cable

Hello,I am experiencing serious issues with my ASUS ROG G751JY T-7032H laptop running Windows 10. It was working perfectly until I suddenly encountered a problem.Chronology of events:I was playing a game on my laptop when I plugged in the Ethernet cable. Suddenly, the laptop shut down by itself. It restarted directly into the BIOS. When I tried to reboot, the screen remained black, even though the laptop was still powered on.I connected the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI, and I saw that it was still stuck in the BIOS. I could not access my hard drive anymore.I used a USB drive with Wind

    Ethernet cable settings

    Hi Campbell,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Please reply to the follow questions to get a better understanding on the issue:

    • What is the model number of your laptop?
    • Do you have a yellow exclamation on the network icon after connecting the cat 7 cable?

However, you can follow the troubleshooting steps from
Fix network connection issues in Windows
    .

Also, I suggest you to check the laptop manual or laptop manufacturer to know whether the Ethernet port of your laptop supports cat 7 cable.

    Hope it helps.

  3. Ethernet cable not working.

You need to solve your problem one step at a time, e.g. like so:

    • Connect your CAT5 cable directly to your router. If it does not work, replace the cable.
    • Connect the cable to your TP-Link wall plug. If it does not work, reconfigure or replace the wall plug.

  4. Sudden Crashes and Display Issues After Connecting Ethernet Cable

Ethernet cable not recognized/Ethernet "Not connected"

i tried all of this and more it did nothing

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's try a few tips that may help diagnose the cause:

    1. Try to change the ports of the Ethernet. The port that you connect to computer, try putting it into the modem and then one connected to the modem, try putting in to the computer.
    2. Try connecting the same Ethernet cable to any other computer, if available and check to ensure the cable is not faulty.
    3. If available, try using another Ethernet cable and check.
    4. Try to disconnect Wireless connection first and then try to connect through Ethernet only and then check.
You might be facing the issue due to several reasons like network adapter issues, driver issues, hardware or software issues. Let's try the methods below and check.

    Method 1: Network Troubleshooter

An automated troubleshooter is a tool that can find and automatically fix some problems with your computer. These troubleshooters aren't designed to fix every problem, but they're a useful tool to try because they can often save you time and effort.

Follow the steps to run the Network troubleshooter:

    a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.
    b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.
    c. Now type Network Troubleshooter in the search option.
    d. Click on Network troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: I would suggest you to open device manager and then try to roll back the network drivers and check if it helps. If you encounter problems with your computer or device after upgrading its driver, you might want to restore the driver for a device to a previous version.

    Here's how:

    a. Press Windows key + R and type devmgmt.msc

    b. Double click the category containing your device driver and then double click the name of the device that you want to restore to a previous driver version.

    c. Click the Driver tab and then click Roll Back Driver

Note: If there's no previous version of the driver installed for the selected device, the Roll Back Driver button will be unavailable even if you are logged on as an administrator.

Method 3: Kindly refer to the suggestions provided from the article below and check.

ethernet port says it is working but not connected, will not recognize any cable plugged in to it, have uninstalled and reinstalled every driver for the ports even did the following

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh int ip reset

    ipconfig/release

    ipconfig/renew

    ipconfig/flushdns

it fixed nothing i reset modem and router tried everything all other cables and pcs work fine mine i have to use the wifi because the ethernet went stupid and i cant fix it.

i am literally looking at a post about this same problem and it evidently goes all the way back to win 8. the only thing i have not tried is repair windows using a media creation tool and i hate doing that. especially if it doesnt fix jack.
