  1. Sudden drop in performance- everything takes up way more CPU and memory than it should

Hello, I'm running a year old laptop, pretty mid-range specs and suddenly in the past few days my performance has plummeted. The first thing I noticed was that games that I previously had no trouble with suddenly became incredibly laggy. Today I checked my task manager and realised that a single, empty tab of firefox was now taking up 20% memory, discord another 30%. It's a similar story with the CPU with 70%+ usage at all times with just a few apps that previously took up no more than 5% each. My laptop also burns to the touch. As to what I've done, I've updated windows, checked my drivers are

Sudden performance drop, unable to download updates, reset and fresh install.

    Hi,

There may be several reasons why you are experiencing a sudden drop in your system's performance. To better assist you and isolate what's causing this issue, kindly answer the questions below:

    • When did this issue start?
    • Were there any hardware/software changes made on your computer prior to this happening?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried aside form the ones you mentioned above?

In the meantime, we suggest that you run the System File Checker
tool. This is a utility in Windows that will allow us to scan and repair for corruptions in your system files. Also, if you are trying to download or install available updates but couldn't, you may refer to this article and follow the steps on how to reset
your Windows Update components: How do I reset Windows Update components?

We're looking forward for your response.

    Sudden FPS drop/Stutter

Since 2 days ago, I just turned on my Computer, and it starting having issues while I was playing Witcher 3 (starts with decent fpsm and then very low fps, dropping to 35, then 20, and stopping at 12 or so, in a matter of seconds, in a matter of 1min of starting the game), also stuttering without any high demanding programs, randomly. I was playing at 45-60 fps, without any stutters or sudden fps drop. Have tried other games the issue persists. Even setup everything to low settings.
I have ran several tests with several tools, all seems normal, no sudden memory spikes, or temperature raising out of the ordinary, nothing that would indicate such an fps drop or stuttering.

    MSI Afterburner

I also did the reset option on Windows10, completly cleaned out all my personal info from the windows partition.
So at this point, I am not sure if it is a software issue or a hardware issue.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Edit: I kept doing some tests to find out the issue. And this happened before and I was able to replicate it. Same thing happened as before, till I set it up to fullscreen, Alt+Tab from the game and then back to the game, FPS went up to 50 again, stable and good, dropped after a couple of seconds. After a bit it went to 2-5 fps, and I had to shutdown the game, because even the sound was getting messed up.

    MSI Afterburner 2

In this image those ups and downs in the GPU usage are when the fps dropped really hard and the sound got messed up.

Sudden drop in performance- everything takes up way more CPU and memory than it should

'System and compressed memory' on ASUS G75VY notebook load CPU always on 16%

    thank you for your reply!

    here what I did:

    1. disabled non-microsoft services, disabled all applications in startup list

result: after restart "system and compressed memory" still gain 17% CPU

    2. ran PC into safe mode ( just to see what happens )

result: CPU load is 0% for "system and compressed memory"

    3. ran PC in normal mode

result: CPU load is 0% for "system and compressed memory"

as we can see from step 1, the problem probably is not in applications ?

what would you suggest in this case ?

    looking forward for your answer
