Windows 10: Sudden Slowdown in Internet Speed on One Laptop Only

Good day,
Up until recently Ive had a steady and stable internet connection on all devices, however recently on one laptop the connection is now incredibly slow (multiple tests on bandwidthplace.com show download speeds of 0.1 Mbps while on another laptop connected to the same connection shows over 7mbps). Connection to my android phone works fast too, I don't know what is making this happen, Ive tried resetting the router, refreshing the connection, releasing/renewing the ip. Not sure what to do here, as I don't have this problem connected to other networks, and other devices on this network aren't experiencing the same issues.
I also updated to the latest available driver from my manufacturer's website and I'm not 100% sure if I have all the latest windows updates since the connection is barely sustained, but I believe I do as I frequently manually check for updates in addition to automatic updates being enabled.

Slow Internet speed on only one computer.

Hi Cody,

Slow internet speed on one of your computer could be due to the following:

• Outdated network adapter driver
• Different Wi-Fi chipset
• Computer processing speed

Make sure that the network driver of your computer(s) are always updated.

We also suggest you to contact your internet service provider for them to check your internet connection speed and give you more information.

Feel free to post back if you have other concerns.

 

Slow Internet speed on only one computer.

I have cable internet, download 150mb / upload 10mb. When i test the connection on my phone via wifi in the same room as the computer it is downloading at 175mb / and uploading at 12mb. Ive tested other computers and they are not having the same issue.
The speeds are identical when testing speeds over ethernet and wifi.

Remove any TAP adapters, also check you are actually connected to your router and not something like BT WiFi, Openzone etc.

 

Thanks for the response, I'm not sure what are TAP adapters or how to find them but I'll see if there's any and remove them. I uninstalled a vpn software I had and I'm seeing a noticeable difference in speeds, I'll monitor it over the next few days and then mark the thread as solved if it maintains its performance. Thank you very much!

 

TAP adapters are often the result of a VPN so you may have hit on the answer by yourself
To remove them go to control panel|device manager|network adapters then r/c and select uninstall for each TAP adapter
If they come back just remove them again, checking every so often will do the trick

Hey, I tried both programs above, no malware was found and I'm not sure what the other is supposed to do but the logs are available, I'll paste it below for you to take a look. Tried uninstalling a bunch of programs to no avail. I wonder if its the router itself for some reason. thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it!
