Windows 10: Sudden usb unplug issue

Hello.

I had an issue start today that ive never had before. I get a windows disconnect & connect sound and my Mixed Reality software starts up.

I was able to log this behaviour:

My response was to change the power plan settings for USB to be disabled, but this has not helped.

Did anyone else experience an issue where suddenly usb devices would unplug and plug in instantly? Anyone have any ideas how i could fix that?

No Message For Unplugging From USB Port

Hi James,

To assist you better, we’d like to know more information regarding your query by answering the questions below:

• What is the format of your USB Flash drive?
• Are you unplugging your USB Flash drive directly from the port or are you ejecting it by right clicking the USB device from My Computer?
• Are you able to see the Safely Remove Hardware icon on your system tray?

In the meantime, we can try to manually bring back the Safely Remove Hardware Window. To do so, you can follow the steps provided:

• Press Windows button + R to show the Run dialog box.
• Copy this command and paste it in the Run dialog box. “ rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll “
  
• Press Enter.

That will bring up the Safely Remove Hardware dialog which you can also use to stop the USB device you want to unplug. If you will close this window, the icon will restore back to the system tray.

Let us know how it goes.

 

USB keyboards become unresponsive after unplugging/plugging three times

1. What is the make and model of the computer?
   
2. What is the make and model of the keyboard?
   

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue.



Step 1: Run USB Troubleshooter.



Run the troubleshooter and diagnose Windows USB problems by following the

article which automatically fixes the USB issue.



Step 2: Create a Restore point and uninstall
Universal Serial Bus controllers.



Create a system restore point before make any major changes onto the computer to make sure that we do not mess up with it. You may go through the article on how to

create a system restore point.

After creating a restore point, go to device manager and uninstall the USB controllers.



To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, follow these steps:

• Right click on the Start menu and click on Device Manager.
  
• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers (You might have to scroll down the list to find this item).
  
• Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.
  
• Repeat step 3 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  
• Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
  

If you still have issues, go to the manufacturer’s website and update the chipset drivers.

USB device is not removable and cannot be ejected or unplugged

Hi Ai-Ling,

Appreciate the troubleshooting steps that you have tried. I suggest you run Hardware Troubleshooter and check as it is an automated tool which checks the hardware connected to the computer for any known issues and provides the details on how to fix
them. Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter.

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the search bar and press “Enter”.
  
• 
  In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.
  
• 
  Click on “Hardware and Devices”.
  
• 
  Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.
  
• 
  Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
  

I also suggest you to Disable & Enable all USB controllers and check if it helps.

• 
  Click Windows key + R, type
  devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
  
• 
  Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  
• 
  Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers mode, and then click Disable one at a time.
  
• 
  Restart the computer, and then enable the USB controllers.
  

Update USB Controllers: To update the USB Controllers from Device Manager follow these steps.

• 
  Go Select Device manager.
  
• 
  Double Click on USB Controllers to expand.
  
• 
  Right click on the USB Controllers that is listed and select
  Update.
