Windows 10: suddenly a black screen listing my saved files appears when i attempt to use search address box

This has never appeared before. Usual I type my search question into the search into the search box and a slightly enlarged box appears listing a few options of what I typed. I select the one I want and then the pages of articles or answers to my question appears. What is this new thing and how to get rid of it.

Hundreds of problems keep appearing each day of using Edge Chromium.


First, in early July the new Edge version automatically installed itself, 2-3 weeks later it updated itselfchanging most settings, apps, etc. on my PC, even shutting off my Microsoft account. Even though I have had to download it 3 more times on every page is a box telling me to try New Edge or download it.

Is my browser not aware that it has been installed - several times?.


I know I cannot remove it completely, but how can I change so that it can remain there, but in the background, and not use it unless for necessary sites. I am still using IE11, but will download and install any browser that is easier to understand than EDGE Chromium.

Search bar appears as a black box

After I power on my laptop and log in, I would normally use the search function to pull up Steam or Instagram. Though recently I've noticed that when I type anything into the search bar, the box above it which should display the results is a black box. It
does not show any results and will not load with any given time frame. I've done the following to attempt to fix it:

- Disable Bing and Cortana in the System Registry and restarting my computer.

- Ended the search tasks via Task Manager and restarting my computer.

- Used PowerShell in an attempt to fix the problem, following the appropriate steps, and restarting my computer.

- Running the troubleshooter, regularly and as administrator, yielding no results.

As far as I know those are all of the changes I've made; nothing more, nothing less. If there's a solution to this you will have my blessing. Thank you!

 

Windows 10 update - problems - no search box in the startup menu, won't let me save my files,........

Ok - I went to the link provided for how to run a System file checker tool. I have no search box to enter the commands in to as the article suggests. My search box has never been there.

As for the File administration. I had to enter my email and not my name. The computer then entered my name. Go figure. It appears to have worked. I went back to the file that I couldn't save yesterday and was able to save it today.

So currently my problems are still - No search box in my start up menu and trying to get rid of a message that continues to appear on my screen. 'GREG This operating system is not supported by this application.' Research has indicated that this file is
something that ACER & Gateway have on their computers as a Global Registration. But, I still don't know how or if it is safe to get rid of the GREG files. They do not show up in my programs list to uninstall. (I didn't mention GREG in this thread. It was
mentioned in another thread but I didn't get any answers there.)

But, most important is getting a search box in my start up menu. I have been told to go to 'Turn Windows features on or off' but 'Windows Search' does not appear on this list.
