Suddenly having to restart my router every time my computer wakes up

Lately my Win 11 computer is having an issue where after waking from sleep or a restart, it is not able to connect to either my 2.4G or 5G WiFi networks. It will show that both networks have full bars, try to connect to one, and once connected it will have no bars, so it will try to connect to the other one, in an endless loop. The only thing that solves it is powercycling the router itself, which I don't want to have to do every time I open my laptop. My other devices ARE able to connect without problems, so it's not an issue with the router. Network Adapter is IntelR Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz"th

    :)

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.

First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

    Break command list: Break Commands

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".

    waking up my computer

    Hi Virginia,

For us to properly isolate the issue in waking up your computer, we would like to know the following:

    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
    • Aside from a hard shut down, to make sure that we have not missed on anything, what other troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you check if the wake on keyboard option is enabled. To check this, open
Device Manager > Keyboards > HID Keyboard Device >
Power Management, and then disable the Allow this device to wake the computer feature (standard value).

We would appreciate it if you could get back to us and provide us your feedback.
