Windows 10: Suddenly my speakers are "not plugged in," no sound

Recently, I suddenly lost all sound. My sound was fine during the day. I went back a couple of hours later and my sound was gone. To my knowledge, there was no update. My computer never shut down or restarted that I noticed. I now have the little red X on my sound icon in the task bar. When I click on it, it runs the audio troubleshooter and determines that no speakers are plugged in. They are in indeed plugged in. I checked. I unplugged and re-plugged them in. They were working a couple of hours prior. I plugged in headphones also, same result. I have updated the driver. It says I have the latest driver. I have uninstalled the device and let Windows re-install. I do NOT have a yellow warning sign on audio device in my device manager. Don't know what else to try. Please help!

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in


I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

 

Disable beep sound when plugging/unplugging laptop charger

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps.

Disable the PC Speakers and check if it helps.

• Right click on Sound Icon in the task bar and go to Playback devices.
  
• Select Speaker and click on properties.
  
• Go to Levels tab, and mute (or you can reduce it) PC Speaker and check if it helps.

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue
