  1. Suppose I Have Hardware That Implements RAID-1 and There Is A Redundancy Lapse

Windows historically supported a software implementation of RAID-1 or mirroring. That is the case where two hard disk drives share the same drive letter. A write to a file on that drive turns into a write to both drives for redundancy. The purpose is to somewhat guarantee continuance of service from the computer despite a hardware failure. Common advice is to use a hardware implementation of RAID-1. Now comes the time when one of the drives crashes. Redundancy is lost. Should the second hard disk drive fail, the computer becomes useless. My question has to do with notification sent to

Any advantage in Hardware-level RAID 1 for full Drive Redundancy?

Honestly, I think RAID 1 for home use is somewhat pointless. The most likely cause of a problem is going to be
    1. User error. You deleted something
    2. malware or virus related: Your files get mangled
    3. Updates or install screws something up.

A RAID 1 setup will not save you from any of these items. You would need another backup solution anyway to protect you against those typess of issue.

Raid 1 will just keep you booting up in the event of a hard drive failure.

  3. Fresh Win 10 Pro install and RAID 1

Thanks guys. I set up RAID in the BIOS following MSI settings in their manual. Then I loaded windows following the prompts. But I must have missed a step. And hence my questions after my install. So, I did as you suggested Samuria, and set it up in Windows. I would have preferred a MoBo hardware setup. But as long as I have RAID 1 I will be happy. Thanks, B.

How to image 2 hard drives with raid 1

    Hi there
Not sure if this is the best way but should work.

    1) backup data to individual external drives (or whatever -- cloud services etc). For basic data - use ROBOCOPY ,XCOPY, or simply Windows / File explorer.
    2) install new HDD's
    3) Create your RAID array's for the new drives.
    4) restore data saved via step 1).

If you have the Windows OS on a RAID device then that's beyond my knowledge - AFAIK Windows needs a hardware card with a driver to boot a RAID device. However the suggestion I've made will save / recover your DATA files.

    Cheers
    jimbo.

Any advantage in Hardware-level RAID 1 for full Drive Redundancy?: I need to catch up on Software-based RAID in Windows 10 version 2004, vs the older, but quite reliable, Chipset-supported BIOS-level RAID. The goal in this case [i happen to have 2 needs right now] is full "no nonsense" fail-over protection. So the plan would be two matched...
