Windows 10: Surface 4 Pro hibernates when the screen shuts off

I disabled all sleep and hibernation for both battery and plugged on my power plan.

The problem is that whenever the screen shuts off, the surface hibernates, so whatever is running stops. For example, if I am listening to a song with VLC player, it shuts off as soon as the screen shuts off or if I am recording something using audacity and a USB sound card, the recording stops after the screen shuts off.

The system is treating my settings to shut the screen off after a specified period of time, as if the settings were for hibernation.

Some Windows update (AKA downgrade) caused the problem as the unit hasn't always behaved like this. I just upgraded to the latest Fall Creators update and the issue persists.

What can I do to disable this "feature" so all programs and features will work when the screen shuts off?

If it is relevant, the unit is an i7 with 8 GIG of RAM.

Bluetooth will not connect when the PC wakes up from sleep on Windows 10.

Hi, I have the same issues with Bluetooth connection failures after sleep/hibernate. This is with multiple Bluetooth devices including the surface pen shortcut buttons (onenote, Cortana and screen shot) and different Bluetooth speakers. I contacted tech
support and they offered me a new surface pen. But, this seems obvious to be a software issue considering it works perfectly if I: Turn off/on, restart, re-pair BT device or surface 4 pen...Then the second it goes to sleep or hibernate it stops working until
one of the above is done.

I use win10 on a surface pro 4.

Please provide a fix for this issue!

 

Windows 10 Surface Pro 4 stuck on blue shutting down screen.

Surface Pro 4 did an update and then tried to shut down. Computer is stuck on the Blue Screen that says "Shutting Down." Can't access with the keyboard or touch screen. When I hold the power button down the screen goes to black, then back to the shutting
down screen. I guess I could just wait until the battery runs down. But gosh, this problem has always had a simple solution in Win 7 and earlier. I can't find any way to stop the shutting down process.

This is my second day with Win 10 and the Surface Pro 4. So far, not impressed.

I made the change and my problem is solved.

I see that the registry setting added more options to the "advanced" power options for my plan (I ended up changing battery power to maximum performance) but to fix the issue, I didn't have to change anything after modifying the registry as now the Surface no longer hibernates when the screen shuts off.

I need to vent - why the **** would an update change that value to 1 or do anything else to treat the screen power feature as if it were instead a hibernation feature??

Microsoft upgrade and patch developers have very low standards and don't QA their work with enough diligence.
