Windows 10: Surface Book 2 screen not detaching

i haven't been able to detach my laptop's screen for the past several months. every time i try either something called lockapp is keeping it from detaching, or random background apps that dont seem like theyd keep my screen from detaching keep it from detaching. i literally dont know whats wrong and its not like i can just stop the start menu from working just so i can detach my screen. yes i have my computer updated to the latest version. im really close to just completely resetting my computer to see if it fixes it at all

Disable the Detach Key for Surface Book 2

How can I disable the detach screen key on the keyboard on my Surface Book 2? I need to disable this keyboard key for now and be able to enable it when I need it.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to disable it and check if it helps.

You will have to disable the Surface DTX. Follow:

• Press and hold (or right-click) the taskbar and select Task Manager.
• In Task Manager, select the Startup tab.
• Check if the Surface DTX status is shown as Disabled.
• Close Task Manager.

problem detaching my surface book

If a background app prevents your Surface Book to be detached, we recommend that you disable this application to run in the background. To disable a background app, follow the steps below:

• Click the Start button and select the Settings
  icon.
• Choose Privacy from the list.
• Select Background apps in the left pane of the window.
• Under Choose which apps can run in the background, look for the application and toggle it off.
