    Surface Laptop Function Keys AND portable DVD drive


    I have a new Microsoft Surface Laptop and cannot get the PrtScn (F8), Home (F9), End (F10) buttons to work. There are several other buttons I haven't tried yet as I don't know for sure what they are, but I think the PgUp (F11) and PgDn (F12) to work, will have to retest to be sure.


    I need help fixing this and thought I'd try asking here instead of calling Microsoft (again).


    Also, any suggestions on a compatible portable DVD drive to plug into USB port or hub? Not available in the Microsoft Store and there are plenty online but some people have problems with them.

    Hello Jesrael,

    • Through USB.
    • Yes it is the first time.
    • No error messages.
    • Spotted it in the "Computer" as a DVD Drive and right clicked to open it and was asked which app it wanted me to open it with. Tried windows media but it could not open it.

    • How are you connecting the portable DVD writer to your Surface Pro?
    • Is this the first time you are going to connect these two devices?
    • Are you getting any error messages when you use the DVD writer to your Surface device? If you do, kindly post it here.
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    best thin and light laptop with dvd drive?

    This laptop is for my mom. She has hard time carrying heavy things so I would like something reasonably light for her. Aesthetic is a second must for her (thin). Last time I checked Acer's timelineX series is reasonably thin and has dvd drive... What are your suggestion?

    edit: portable dvd drive is also one option. im thinking something like the toshiba portege z835 http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/toshiba-portege-z835.aspx with a external dvd drive
