Windows 10: Surface Laptop Go 3 fingerprint logon stopped working

My Win 11 Surface laptop go fingerprint logon has suddenly stopped working.In 'Settings' the Fingerprint recognition tab says the option is unavailable and that it can't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows hello fingerprint!I have updated/reinstalled the biometric drivers in 'Device Manager' etc. The 'Services Credential manager is running and on auto. The OS is uptodate - build 22631.4602. With Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1055.0. Nothing works.What is the problem and how can I repair?

Fingerprint logon won't work

Dell Inspiron 5406 2-in-1. Clean install of Windows 10 after installing a new SSD.

Fingerprint not recognized for logon. "Your fingerprint couldn't be recognized. Try using a different finger."

Laptop has a fingerprint reader. I've only had it work once to login since I replaced the SSD. I've re-registered my fingerprint multiple times. No good. The fingerprint reader wasn't working with the old SSD either. It was working ok for a while when the computer was new. I suspect a Windows OS update caused that problem.

The sensor works ok, just can't sign in using it. The OS was upgraded to Windows 11 on the old SSD.

I've tried suggestions from other forums here and at Dell. None of them have worked. The fingerprint logon might work a time or two and then stop working.

Anyone know what causes this and how to fix?

I understand your concern about fingerprint reader on the your device, do le us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

• Have you made any changes to the device(Hardware/ Software) prior to this issue?
• Have you connected any other external devices to your Surface Pro 4?
• Are you using PIN on the logon screen to log-in to your device?

I suggest you to refer to the below post and check if your issue matches with the same. If so, try the troubleshooting steps mentioned by
RobertBrindle on November 10, 2015 and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Logon laptop with fingerprint not working

Hi Brenda

Thank you for the reply but I've done some further investigation and I don't believe it is the actual fingerprint reader. If I have the laptop setup with a wifi connection like now then the logon by fingerprint works fine. If I use the iPhone as a network connection
via USB then it doesn't. Not sure why yet. I've even set the laptop to airplane mode and it works OK, so I need to do further investigation as I thought at first it was related to having a valid Internet connection.
