Surface Pad connected with external display with Type c to vga converter

Hi folks I have connected my surface pad with external monitor but it always take a long time for external display to turn on. I can hear the plug in sound when I plug in converter cable in surface pad but not able to see anything on external display. I even checked projection settings as well and that also on extended display. Once turn on, it works smoothly. Any guidance on this issue? Many thanks

    :)

  2. Dell Monitor not displaying over USB-C to VGA dongle

Hi all I am wanting to revive some use from my old Dell E2009W Monitor. The monitor only support VGA and/or DVI-D. I am currently trying to connect it to my PC, which only supports the modern display ports, HDMI and DisplayPort. So I have a USB-C to VGA dongle plugged into the PC and VGA into a cable connected to the monitor but nothing displays. However Windows gives a notification: Display connection might be limited, make sure the DisplayPort device connection is supported by your PC... I am unsure how to check this, but I assume my USB-C port is not display capable? The USB-C port standard is Rear USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C If my assumption is correct, is there any suggestions for an alternative way to get the monitor display working? Cheers

  3. My VGA Converter doesn't work

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're experiencing quite a bit of trouble with VGA to DisplayPort (DP) and VGA to DVI converters when trying to connect an older monitor to a newer graphics card (AMD RX 550).

Here are a few steps and considerations that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the VGA to DP converter supports the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor. Some converters might not support higher resolutions or refresh rates.
    2. Active vs. Passive Adapters: For converting VGA (analog) to DP or DVI (digital), you need an active adapter that includes a chip to convert the signal from analog to digital. Passive adapters won't work in this case because they only work for digital to digital or analog to analog.
    3. Quality of the Adapter: Not all adapters are created equal. Some might have issues with signal conversion quality. It might be worth investing in a higher-quality adapter from a reputable brand, especially if you've already faced issues with two different adapters.
    4. Monitor Input Settings: Some monitors require you to manually select the input source (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP, etc.). Make sure your monitor is set to the correct input that corresponds to the adapter you are using.
    5. Graphics Card Settings: Dive into your graphics card's control panel (AMD Radeon Settings for your RX 550) and ensure it detects the monitor. You might need to manually configure the output settings or force the GPU to recognize the adapter.
    6. Update Drivers: Although you've mentioned reinstalling drivers, ensure that you have the latest drivers for your AMD RX 550 from the official AMD website. Sometimes, specific issues are resolved in newer driver updates.
    7. Check the VGA Cable and Ports: Ensure that the VGA cable and the VGA port on your monitor are in good condition. A damaged cable or port could cause connection issues.
    8. Test with Another Monitor or PC: If possible, test the converter and your setup with another monitor or PC. This can help determine if the issue lies with the converter, the monitor, or the PC setup.
    9. Power Requirements: Some active converters require external power to operate (usually through a USB port). Check if your converter has such a requirement and ensure it's properly powered.
If after trying these steps you still face issues, it might be worth considering alternatives, such as:

    • Direct Connection: If your monitor has other input options compatible with your GPU, using a direct connection without converters might be more reliable.
    • New Monitor: If the monitor is quite old and you're frequently facing connectivity issues, it might be time to consider upgrading to a newer monitor with direct DP or HDMI inputs, which are more compatible with modern GPUs like the AMD RX 550.
If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

Surface Pad connected with external display with Type c to vga converter

Surface Laptop 4 doesn't connect to external displays through USB-C

Hi, I bought a refurbished Surface Laptop 4 with windows 11 2 1/2 weeks ago and I haven't been able to use the USB-C port for any external displays/monitors. I first discovered the problem when trying to connect my Huion Kamvas 16 display tablet, which connects through a USB-C-> USB-C cable that’s compatible with DisplayPort alternate mode. When the tablet is plugged in, my computer registers it as a display but starts freezing intermittently and the screen blinks on and off. I’ve also tried plugging my laptop into different external monitors with an HDMI->USB-C adaptor. With the HDMI-> USB-C, it registers as a USB-C Video Adaptor in my device manager and under “other devices”, but not as a monitor. I can still charge my phone and interface with it through the USB-C port. I don’t have any other devices I can check with it.

Here's the troubleshooting I've done so far:

    • Turned my laptop off and on again
    • Connected both the tablet and other monitors to other devices- both worked perfectly fine as expected, so the issue isn't with the cords or external devices
    • Kept my display tablet powered through its external charging device. My laptop still freezes intermittently and blinks on and off
    • Uninstalling and re-installing the USB drivers through device manager
    • Uninstalling and re-installing the drivers and firmware for my tablet- I double checked the drivers with the serial number to make sure it was the correct ones.
    • plugging in the tablet without drivers, which should normally just register it as an external monitor. My laptop still freezes intermittently and blinks on and off.
    • Checked the system requirements and specs for the tablet and my laptop's USB-C port- I didn't find anything that would indicate it's incompatible with the tablet or the HDMI->USB-C adaptor
    • All options that could be done on the external monitors and usb-c microsoft troubleshooting pages
    • Note: I restarted my laptop after each uninstallation and re-installation process.
Why am I asking for help here instead of with my tablet's manufacturer? Because I'm convinced it's an issue with my USB-C port and not an issue with my tablet. The tablet works fine with other devices (unfortunately I don’t anyone else with a SL4), and my computer just doesn’t connect to any other displays, period. It’s only my USB-C port that’s causing issues.

Short of factory resetting my computer, I can’t think of anything else to try. Is the Surface Laptop 4 just unable to connect to external displays through the USB-C port? I rely on my drawing tablet for supplemental income so if it’s not compatible, I need to know so I can get a new laptop.

Edit: Clarified one of the bullet points further
