  1. Surface Pro - Intel Core i5 / 128GB SSD / 8GB RAM - freezes

My Surface Pro is used for web browsing, video streaming and Zwift. The video often freezes when streaming, and if I am browsing at the same time Edge/Chrome will say "not responding". When I am able to check the task manager CPU/memory is often very high. Zwift occasionally crashes too, and Zwift support says the graphics driver needs updating I had sent them a log file. On device manager I selected update driver > search automatically and it said the best driver is already installed. So, 2 possibly related issues - any suggestions please?

    :)

Slow Performance in Surface Pro 4 - Core i5 8GB

Sup guys! I'm resorting to this forum, because I know the caliber of people that roam around here.

I have a Surface Pro 4 - i5 w/ 8GB of RAM, and it's been painfully slow to do basic tasks. Excel, Web Browsing , Opening the Task Manager takes a lot; mouse lag; and maybe some coding with Visual Studio. I have a laptop with an i7 4700MQ and my laptop feels way snappier.

I thought that I wouldn't need the two extra cores since I was doing some basic work, but I don't know if I'm right...

So, this is what I've done:

    1. Checked Startup items. Almost bare bones. No Java Updater, only Dropbox, f.lux, Windows Defender.
    2. Ran sfc /scannow and chkdsk - No problems found.
    3. Scanned for viruses (Malwarebytes). Everything clean.
    4. CPU temp is great at 56°C.
    5. CPU, Disk and RAM usage do not top 100% when experiencing these issues.
    6. I've refreshed and Clean Install (From USB Drive), and I'm still experiencing issues.

Is there a way for me to track the usage and see which programs may be causing some sort of distortion? Even though it's an ultrabook i5 it should be way more than enough for the type of tasks that I'm doing (I think)

    Any suggestions or ideas?

Slow Performance in Surface Pro 4 - Core i5 8GB

Hmmm. So I decided to format the computer once more. This time I installed the Creators Update and I can feel it really fast, compared to last time. I downloaded PCMark 8 and made some comparisons.

    This was before formatting:

    Surface Pro - Intel Core i5 / 128GB SSD / 8GB RAM - freezes 127559d1491045839t-slow-performance-surface-pro-4-core-i5-8gb-screenshot-7-.png

    This was after formatting:

    Surface Pro - Intel Core i5 / 128GB SSD / 8GB RAM - freezes 127560d1491045907t-slow-performance-surface-pro-4-core-i5-8gb-screenshot-1-.png

    A 13% difference!!!

The formatted part was running Vanilla Windows 10, that means that I haven't installed a single program into it.

I'm going to start by installing Office and Dropbox, and I will run the test again to see how it goes.

    Surface Pro - Intel Core i5 / 128GB SSD / 8GB RAM - freezes

    Surface Pro Hang/Freeze

New Surface Pro, less than a month old - Surface Pro 9: 2-in-1 versatility, laptop power, tablet flexibility - Microsoft Store Australia

    Intel Core i7 / 512GB SSD / 16GB RAM

Windows Edition - Windows 10 Pro

    Version - 1709

    OS Build - 16299.248

Noticed significant performance difference between this supposedly higher spec Surface Pro and an older (but current model) Intel Core i5 Surface Pro I have been using (sorry don't have other device handy to pull OS and specs). Intel Core i5 Surface Pro
handles everything thrown at it, Intel core i7 struggles with basic applications.

The problem manifests as an application hanging or freezing. When the application freezes it causes the device to freeze. That is, the mouse and keyboard becomes slow or unresponsive and other applications (Chrome, Outlook) become "not responding".

Eventually if left long enough it sorts itself out, however this can take hours so rebooting is often necessary.

This is not limited to one device, we bought two brand new devices, same specification. Both units appear to have a performance issue. This is not limited to one app, but I can easily replicate using Google Earth Pro on my device.

    Google Earth Pro - 7.3.1.4507 (64-bit)

Build Date - Tuesday, February 6, 2018 12:48:10 AM UTC

    Renderer - DirectX

Operating System - Microsoft Windows (6.2.9200.0)

    Graphics Driver- Google Inc. (00022.00020.00016.04749)

    Maximum Texture Size -16384x16384

Available Video Memory - 8282 MB

    Server - kh.google.com

To make Google Earth hang, load a large KML/KMZ file into temporary places. Attempting to interact graphically demonstrates the significant performance difference between Core i5 and Core i7.

Attempting to switch folders/markers on/off causes Google Earth to hang/freeze, which in turn hangs/freezes other apps and the Surface Pro in general.

We use Office 365, it was advised we uninstall Office Desktop Apps. This has not made any discernible difference

I forced an update for the Display Adaptor Iris Plus 640 driver to version 3.20.16.4944, but this has not made any discernible difference. The problem still persists.

On or off the docking station, with or without screen, power, etc. Problem still persists.

    Any ideas,solutions, recommendations out there?
