    Hi,my laptop came with a digital license for Windows 11 Pro.This license is now linked with https://account.microsoft.com/devices, where my device is also now listed.The laptop is configured with two M.2 SSDs, a small drive currently connected to a PCIe 4.0 port on first position, and a bigger drive 2 TB connected to a PCIe 3.0 port on second position.Windows is currently installed on the first smaller drive.After some speed measurements I now want to swap the 2 drives, so that the bigger drive is then connected to the fast PCIe 4.0 port on first position.After performing the swap of

    Swapping HD drive licensing query

    Before swapping drives, start up the new machine, go through the initial setup of the new Windows and make sure that its W10 Pro says 'activated with a digital licence...'. The new machine will then have a Digital Licence on the Microsoft activation servers linked to its hardware ID.

    The hard drive plays no part in this hardware ID, so once you have a digital licence for the new PC you can swap in the W10 Pro drive from the old PC without any activation problems.

    Swapping drives with Windows 10 and Windows 7

    If that machine already has a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, it should work, if it doesn't then you will need to enter a unique Windows 10 Pro key on each machine you swap the drive into.
