Windows 10: Swapping Hard drives

Good Morning etc, okay I have a PC at home which has an external sata plugin for hard drives, last night I went to check a hard drive and plugged in the wrong one. The one I plugged was for another PC and had Windows 10 mounted in German my PC has English and is Windows 10 I checked the drive and realised my mistake disconnected the drive. I remounted the drive in the correct machine today and Windows 10 is no longer working. The drive when attached to my machine was displaying in English for example Users which on a German machine is Benutzer... this has obviously caused the machine to trip out and now it no longer works, I am unable to use the start button or access anything on the machine, can anyone advise please?

The only idea I have had is to switch the German PC to English and then back again and see if this works but any advice I would be grateful.

Well I tried the above and this has not worked. At present I cannot use the Start button on Win10 and the taskbar is not setting out the pinned items or be able to use the shortcuts on the desktop.

Any ideas?

If either computer came preinstalled with Windows 7 or Windows 10, you likely cannot transfer it.

It depends on how Windows 10 was originally configured on your computer.

If its a full retail store bought license online or offline, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a retail store bought Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a OEM preinstalled Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is NOT transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If you are unable transfer either license, you will need to purchase a full license for either machine.

 

swapping laptop hard drives

I have a windows 10 laptop, its a hp 15 notebook pc, my mom has an older hp pavillion laptop, not sure on model number but its running windows 7, Im wondering if it is possible to swap hard drives and have both laptops run fine. If not what do I need to
do in order to make the swap work?
