    Hi all,

    I'm currently teaching English and Computer skills for an NGO in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma).

    I'm using a donated Toshiba Portege R830 laptop that appears to have been originated from Switzerland.

    When I arrived here the keyboard was programmed completely wrong, however I have managed to resolve this by changing the Keyboard language to Swiss German (QWERTZ) - this has successfully alligned all of the keys to the correct value. Except……

    Y and Z are reversed and I cannot find any way of swapping them! I've read a few forums online, including on this website and it appears that most Swiss German keyboards are QWERTZ, however this one I'm using is a QWERTY.

    Does anyone know what language/keyboard setting I need to find?

    Changing keyboard layout

    Hi,

    So I tried to create a custom keyboard layout. I'm German and know how to machine type on the German layout but since I write a lot in English I wanted to have ' and # swapped (in the standard German layout you have to press shift+# to get '). I downloaded
    MS keyboard layout manager 1.4 and swapped the keys and it works well.

    Then I decided to also swap z and y, essentially creating a QWERTY German layout, because reaching from ctrl to z in the QWERTZ layout is sometimes a hassle. Swapping y and z was not a problem, but now the keys still behave as their original y or z in combination
    with ctrl. I.e. if I press z, former y, I get the z, but ctrl+z, former y, still registers as ctrl+y, and vice versa. I can't wrap my head around it.

    Any ideas?

    Ctrl key on German QWERTZ keyboard?

    A while ago my dad bought a netbook online from Germany, we found out it did not have a QWERTY but a QWERTZ keyboard

    We are not used to use this keyboard, where are the Ctrl keys, to copy/paste and such?

    Ctrl key on German QWERTZ keyboard?

    Looking at google images it appears some QWERTZ boards show STR/STRG, other images show the same buttons as the Ctrl keys.
