Windows 10: Synaptics Pointing Device Keeps Resetting Itself, 2019

HI. My mouse settings keep reverting to their default (or their original) status per start up. My objective is to maintain a four-line scroll limit. I've tried accomplishing this using your Windows 10 desktop setting page, and SPD's control panel. My mouse settings work perfectly during their activation period (if I turn on my system, then apply my preferred mouse wheel settings), but not at all if I reboot my laptop (i.e., if I turn my laptop off and then turn it on again later to resume usage, my mouse wheel resets itself from a four-line scroll limit to 78 lines per scroll -!). My drivers are updated. No problems were found via diagnostic runs. Although registry changes were suggested in several non-Microsoft help forums I've read, my current registry profile doesn't match the descriptions provided by those same forum support commentators (no such registry key). I'm willing to follow exact instructions that are clearly related to my registry -- but no experimentation, thanks!


Any solutions? Recommendations? I'll very much appreciate whatever help you can provide.

Try Uninstalling your device first, restart and then Install again.

Step 1:

• Open device manager by right clicking This PC and select Manage. On the left pane, click the same.
• Under Mouse and pointing devices, right click the synaptics driver and click Uninstall.

Step 2:

Restart when prompted. Remember, Restart!

Step 3:

Install the synaptics driver again using the setup utility provided by the manufacturer

This is about to drive me crazy. I have no idea why this is happening every day, but I've never seen anything like it. Most every single day without exception this Synaptics - Pointing Drawing - Synaptics Pointing Device is listed in windows automatic
update history. Any suggestions from anyone?

This issue may occur due to the outdated Synaptic Touchpad
drivers. Try the below steps and check if it helps.

I would suggest you to download and install the latest Synaptic Touchpad drivers from the device manufacturer’s website and uninstall the Synaptic touchpad drivers and re-install the same again.

Note: Make sure you download and save the Touch Pad driver and installed it before uninstalling the same.

To uninstall Synaptic touchpad drivers, follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X and click on
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Locate Mice and other pointing devices and expand the same.
  
• 
  Right-click the Synaptic driver and select
  Uninstall. (Note: keep the latest installed Synaptic driver)
  
• 
  Restart the computer, if prompted.
