Synaptics touchpad windows 10 wont disable

i understand i have asked this before, but my touchpad still refuses to disable. i have tried 5 different versions of the synaptics driver, and i believe im currently running on the best version (according to my laptop). if i go to control pannel and disable it from there its still no luck. can anyone help because this is incredibly annoying and its making me regret my decision to update as it worked perfectly before*Mad.

    :)

    disable touchpad

I want disable synaptics ps/2 port touchpad in Win 10

  3. Cortana uncommanded popups

    Lenovo Y700 17IAK with Synaptics Touchpad, driver 19.3.1038 ELAN 11.4.92.1 ALPS 8.201. 1611. 252

Two finger swipe or three finger swipe or palm and finger on touchpad activates Cortana, all Cortana switches off, all Synaptics switches to activate Cortana off, driver deleted and reloaded twice, driver deleted and reloaded by Lenovo tech support
in remote access session with same results.

Turning off Synaptics touchpad in startup corrects device, but disables advance touchpad functions and adjustments. After reboot or adjustment of any touchpad settings Cortana problem returns.

Lenovo Tech support deleted Synaptics driver and disabled auto update on drivers with Windows PC Mouse base driver in use with no Touch Pad functions. Driver is the only and latest driver that Lenovo has on web site or tech support.

Has anyone else had or still having this Cortana issue?

I have exhausted both Windows 10 and Lenovo tech supports and Lenovo points at Windows 10, who points back to Synaptics driver who points to Lenovo or Windows 10.

Synaptics touchpad windows 10 wont disable

You can diable the touchpad when an external mouse is connected like so:
In the control panel, select the menu item Mouse, then in the properties go to "Device Settings" and hit the checkbox "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached".

  5. I have the same problem as annaxise and I know how to disable the touchpad using this method. The problem I have is my computer doesn't retain the setting when I shut it down. I have to re-click the checkbox every time I start up the computer. Very frustrating! How do I PERMANENTLY disable the touchpad when I have a USB device connected?

I am able to go to the Control Panel and "Disable internal pointing dvice when external USB pointing device is attached" and it works fine, but for that session only.

Each time the computer is rebooted or even often awakened after sleeping for a while, the setting goes back to the default and I have to go back the the control panel each time.

Is there a way to make this a permanent situation. I do not want to permanently disable the touchpad for there are times I prefer to use it rather than the mouse. I want to permanently have it set to disable WHEN external device is active.

    Thanks for any advice!

Try to disable the touchpad from Device Manager. Click on the search icon, type Device and click on the link. Then expand mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the touchpad and select Disable. You only have to remember to connect a mouse, otherwise you won't be able to control your computer with the touchpad disabled.

Synaptics touchpad windows 10 wont disable

Is there no way to get to go back to the way it was prior to Win 10? Set it to disable the touch pad when the mouse is connected. That way you had both ways of running the system without constantly needing to reset the mouse or needing to plug in the mouse. Both of those steps should not be needed once the Devices setup is properly marked.

    A little more is needed.

Need to open "regedit" and change one key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\DisableIntPDFeature

Value has to be 33 in hexadecimal and next restart will be deactivated.

If you rather prefer just for one user

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\DisableIntPDFeature

If this is too much work for you, you can just create one file with the Notepad with this test in it:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\S*ynTPEnh]
    "DisableIntPDFeature"=dword:00000033

    And Save it as

    Disabletouchpad.reg

(important to be .reg, no .txt for this to work)

And then just double click the file to put the in the Windows Registry

    Hope it helps *Wink

I only recently had Windows 10 inadvertently installed over my Windows 7 - 64bit OS. At first the normal "disconnect touchpad when external USB mouse is connected" worked perfectly normally right up until this morning. Last updates are recorded as taking place two days ago, but after I woke the computer up from sleep mode this morning I found the mouse pointer "frozen" on my screen. I never thought to try the touchpad because it was left disabled as a result of the USB mouse still being connected. You mention a check box for "Disable Internal Pointing Device When External USB Pointing Device Is Attached", yet I can find no such option under the mouse properties in my Control Panel settings/properties. In the past, I have done a regedit to re-enable this feature in Windows 7 which worked, but those settings in both local & user are and have been set to 33 and yet the issue remains. After rebooting my touchpad still won't deactivate nor will the USB mouse control the pointer. I have performed the regedit several times and rebooted, plugged and unplugged the USB mouse and even went to Synaptics to download and install their latest Windows 10 drivers. I have no idea why the settings suddenly stopped working days after the download and the mouse/touchpad combination had had no issues until the freezing this morning or why the regedit solution is having no effect. I don't want to simply disable the touchpad permanently in case some software bug or mechanical failure knocks the USB mouse out of commission. Does anyone see any rhyme or reason for the problem or a suggested correction other than a recovery with the restore feature?

    Hello!

I guess you are probably using generic drivers from Windows Update for the touchpad. These are not always ideal. I recommend downloading latest official drivers from notebook manufacturer's support site. If you run the setup Windows may ignore the driver if that from Windows Update is newer. In that case, go to Device Manager, right-click on the touchpad device -> Update driver and then select the last option (don't let Windows search for it). Then select again the last option and you should see a "Have Disk" button. Click on that and browse to the folder where you extracted the driver files. Select the first device from the list and proceed to install the driver, even if Windows might warn you it cannot verify compatibility. Once finished you have to use the show/hide tool to block any touchpad driver updates so your working driver won't be replaced again.

Aside from that, I have seen in Windows 7 too that installing the wrong Synaptics driver can render your touchpad unusable. (I had had a Synaptics touchpad driver from another notebook and tried to install it only to find out it was incompatible and the touchpad would not work at all). Once you replace the driver with the correct one the touchpad works again. It could be your case as well. So in any case make sure you have the latest official driver fro notebook's manufacturer site installed, not rely on Windows Update. If there is no driver available for Windows 10, that for Windows 8 or 7 or Vista will also work (of course the newer the better).

    Thank you spapakons.

Unfortunately, I tried that yesterday. Asus had two different drivers to download related to Windows 10 and it wasn't clear as to which one would support my specific circumstances with my G73JH-A-1. I tried both as you have suggested, using the "have disk" method to update the driver and neither one resolved this issue with my USB mouse and touchpad. I googled a number of websites with regard to this same Asus notebook model and Windows 10 and the majority simply gave up and returned to Windows 7 or 8 (many reporting a "freezing" issue which is how this all started in my situation as well. My notebook hasn't frozen since, but the USB mouse/touchpad problem remains. In the past, I use the touchpad only in the rarest circumstances. However, I am lost without my USB mouse!

Many thanks for trying to assist me. I'm beginning to think my only alternative will be to return to using Windows 7 exclusively.

Forgive me for not looking closer at your personal information. I should have greeted you with a "Yassas" and closed with an "Adio".

First try to install latest Windows 8 or Windows 7 driver. It could work better than Windows 10 driver. Are you sure the touchpad is not disabled in BIOS or by any relevant key combination? Have a look at Device Manager. Are all your devices OK? Any unknown/uninstalled device? Try updating the chipset drivers (INF files) as well.

The Function key for the touchpad has no effect whatsoever. I did flash the BIOS and chipset drivers about a month ago and everything worked as it should until Microsoft automatically upgraded the OS from 7 to 10. I will give your suggestion of using the Windows 7 driver a try and see what happens.
