Windows 10: Synaptics Two Finger tap in Windows 10

Hi

Running a Lenovo Y500, with the Lenovo Synaptics software (also tried the generic software from Synaptics).

In Windows 8.1, I did the registry fix (adjust 2FingerTapAction value to 2 etc), and i could use it just fine. Seems the reg fix doesn't work in Win 10. The entries are all still there, and I adjusted the values, but still no two finger tap context menu (have to do a two finger click).

Does anyone have a fix/solution (I would prefer NOT to use 3rd party apps)? Thanks for the help!

How to disable a touchpad gesture in windows 10!?!?

If you just touch with 2 fingers you should get the right click menu. So if you don't scroll far enough it may interpret your action as "just a touch" rather than a "scroll".

You might be able to disable it in your mouse/touchpad driver.

This is talking about enabling 2 finger touch in Win 10, but I would try a value of 0 to disable it

Usually those changes are "live", but you could reboot to be sure. Try a 1 if 0 doesn't work.

If it's a Synaptics device another tweak to the registry (though this is referencing Win 7)

There's also a 3rd party tool (only for Synaptics devices), and again it's aged Win 7 - 8.1

TouchPad

Hello,

I have this problem with my windows 10 synaptics touchpad. Every time I'm scrolling with my two fingers it somehow dicides that i am pressing three fingers instead and brings up cortana and its been really buging me. i wonder is it possible to disable just
this 3 tap system whitout disabling other tap functions like two finger tap or just tap?

If anyone else has this issue, this is how I fixed it:

In the registry, under HKEY_Local_Machine, Software, Synaptics, SynTP, Win10, create a DWORD 32bit value "2FingerTapAction" with value 2.
Under HKey_Users, find your User ID (easy if there is only one user, it's the only long key without "classes" at the end), go to software/synaptics/SynTP/TouchPadPS2TM2133, and change value for 2FingerTapAction to 2.
Log off and back in, and voila!

 

Another solution, which works better for me, is to replace the driver.

1. Let Lenovo/Windows update your Synaptics to the newest crippled version
2. Go to Device Management, select the crippled Lenovo driver (it appear to me as Lenovo Pointing Device, but might have another name on your system) and choose Update Driver Software
3. Now (IMPORTANT) Press Browse my Computer for Driver Softwrare, Let me Pick from a List, Have Disk, and point it to the driver contained in the following archive:

Restart, and allow Windows to run the Synaptics Helper, if asked.

 

Yes, I noticed the Dell driver doesn't disable the function. (My wife recently got a Dell E7240) I don't like using cross-brand drivers though. The registry hack works well.
(Btw, instead of going to Hkey_Users, you can just go to Hkey_Current_User, and follow the rest - works just as well)

Thank you, very much. I was on a 1.5 hour phone call with Lenovo support to (unsuccessfully) try to fix this issue.

After I followed instructions for HKEY_MACHINE, I didn't see the recently created DWORD entry in the HKEY_USERS or HKEY_CURRENTUSER branch even after refreshing. So I just created the same DWORD entry in the TouchPad folder, signed off, signed on and voila. I finally have the 2 finger tap function.

I wasn't going to try the other suggestion with a different branded driver that has to be downloaded from a private One drive account with potential viruses.

I wonder why changing the settings in the synaptics TouchPad settings not only didn't change the registry entry but the entry wasn't even in there! I wonder if I can add entries for various different gestures and make them do various custom functions.

Just thought I'd chime in to help anyone else struggling with this nowadays after the more recent Windows 10 updates since this in an old thread. My touchpad starting acting up - again *Huh, uninstalled every remnant of drivers I could find, reinstalled latest driver and after a while suddenly my two finger right click stopped working right when I'm doing something pretty crucial *Banghead

Latest Windows updates require an additional step:
In Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadSMB2cTM2133, change the value for 2FingerTapAction to 2

So, to summarise:
Add DWORD 32 Bit value 2FingerTapAction to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Win10", and set it to 2
Change value of 2FingerTapAction in "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadSMB2cTM2133" to 2
Change value of 2FingerTapAction in "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2133" to 2
