Warning: I am very new to this stuff so sorry if I sound like an actual imbecile also I do not know what generalise means

I just built a new pc using ryzen instead of intel which I was using before so I decided to actually sysprep my hard drives for once instead of slapping them into the new pc like I normally would. Well I tried to sysprep and generalise but I kept getting the error that’s something to do with the Microsoft store and I couldn’t be bothered to do any of the proper fixes so I just decided to sysprep without generalising thinking it wouldn’t be that much of a big deal and it worked. Just put the drives into my new pc and my secondary one is completely perfect but practically everything on my main drive is gone.

Is there anything I can do to fix it or did I just royally fuck myself over?

    SysPrep Advice

    Hi Joseph,

The topic that you raised is beyond the scope of support for this site which focuses more on home and personal end users. Here's what I found about SysPrep:

However these are old articles and the process may have been changed already. You may re-post this question in

    for further assistance.

    All the best.

    Sysprep and viboot

I know from the excellent tutorials, you can sysprep (and generalise) windows 10 in a vm and save generalised image using Macrium Reflect - indeed I have done this myself.

Easy enough to do installing vm, and adding win32 apps as required.

What I really wanted to do is clone my existing physical install, restore image in hyper-v, generalise and create new image but I ran into issues with disk sizes as the macrium restore step needs the same amount of disk space as the original physical disk even if the c drive is small.

I was wondering if there was a simpler way using viboot e.g.

Open macrium image using viboot which does work

    Enable hidden admin account

    Sysprep and generalise

    Save macrium image from viboot.

Any ideas if this would work, and would I need to do anything special?

    Windows 10 1709 sysprep fail

    Hi,

I had the same problem, checked the logs and they basically said Windows was unable to remove the Miracast app.

Tried multiple suggestions, nothing worked until I found this:

Failed to sysprep and capture Windows 10 Fall Creators 1709

Basically Microsoft have pushed out their 1709 image without the Miracast app installed, to fix:

    • Copy the C:\Windows\MiracastView folder from a working 1703 build into the C:\Windows directory on the 1709 machine
    • Restart and then run sysprep

    Sysprep should then run successfully!
