Windows 10: System and reserved taking 175 Gbs HELP

My friend has a 500 GB SSD and the system and reserved are taking 175 GB of his storage.

We have tried the chkdsk /r and did nothing, we also tried disk cleanup and did nothing, he has also reinstalled windows

System Files using 175 GB

My system files are using 175 GB of Disk Space on my PC. When I first installed windows 10 on my computer I was upgrading it from windows 7. My computer didn't install it easily. It took multiple attempts to get it fully installed and functional. In the
end I had to turn off all the programs that ran on startup. Now I think all of the previous installation attempts may be what is taking so much of the space in system files. I have tried using Disk Cleanup for (C and clicking on the cleanup system files
option. That doesn't offer me the solution, nor does cleaning up system restore and shadow copies. How can I check to see if I'm right about there being multiple copies of windows 10? And if there are indeed multiple copies of windows 10, is there a way that
I can figure out which one is active and delete/uninstall the rest manually?

 

Recovery Partition vs System Reserved Partition

Thanks for all the info guys.

Both original & target SSD's are listed as MBR as opposed to UEFI. I may have created a partition unknowingly in getting the original/new unformatted drive recognized, but I don't recall taking any steps that Windows did not step me through.

Not that an upgrade to WIN 10 Pro is contemplated, but I suspect that having no System Reserved partition will not allow that to happen, after seeing how the original WIN 10 upgrade created a problem for some WIN 7 users that had a smaller 100mb vs 500mb System Reserved partition.

 

System Reserved Memory issue

The reduction in available system memory depends on the configuration of the following:

• The devices that are installed in the computer and the memory that is reserved by those devices
• The ability of the motherboard to handle memory
• The system BIOS version and settings
• The version of Windows 10 that is installed
• Other system settings

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest that you check your system for memory problems.

Here's how:

• Type mdsched.exe in the search bar and select the best match.
• When prompted by the User Account Control, enter an admin user name and password, and click
  Yes.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run it.
