    System beep at Windows lock screen and UAC prompts


    I'm getting a strange beep that sounds like a system beep you would get when an old command line program would trigger a beep or like beep codes you get when there's a hardware problem at boot. It's a single long beep.It happens when the lock screen comes up or when UAC comes up prompting for a password. It seems to be whenever a login is needed.It does not happen if I mute audio.- I've looked through Ease of Access settings and don't see anything relevant in there. It seems like it would be some setting in there, though.- I've set the Windows sound scheme to None. No sounds are set for prompt

    Hey friends,

    I am Aryesh, and from when I got my new laptop, I have been facing this UAC Prompt delay for about 4 - 5 secs and Lock screen delay. When I press a key, the lock screen is just the image and then after some seconds, it appears. I think that my Graphics driver
    is corrupted. Randomly, my screen goes black and I have to press the combination Win + Ctrl + Shift + B to refresh the screen. I know, that these are many problems but, please help. I tried disabling lock screen, I ran System file checker and more. Please
    give an easy solution, And please don't tell me to do stuff with the registry or perform a clean boot or boot in safe mode.

    Maxtor Hard Drive Beep

    Maxtor drive beeps

    Have a similiar situation using a DiamondMax Plus 8, 20GB Mfg Date 4/15/03. Drive used as a second system drive. Drive is recognized in boot menu but not in drive list. Drive is always connected. Computer started locking up for several seconds at a time. Chkdsk on drives and couldn't find that drive. Removed drive from bay to make sure connections were ok and heard the beeping. Shutdown and restart and never got to windows screen. Restarted several times then saw drive in boot menu and Windows loaded but Maxtor not in drive menu. When recognized in boot menu, computer will start but beeps and is not found.

    Tried kicking it real hard but no improvement. Any suggestions?

    No login prompt on lock screen (without restarting)

    Hi Luke,

    To resolve your concern regarding no login prompt on lock screen (without restarting), you might want to try the following troubleshooting suggestions:

    * Once you are on the locked screen, press any key ( Spacebar, Enter or Backspace ), it should take you to the next page where the system will be asking for your password.

    * Once you've reached the locked screen, press Control + Alt + Delete to get you to the next page where the system will ask for your password.

    * If still you are unable to go to the page where the system will be asking for your password, we suggest for you to try the next troubleshooting step.
