Windows 10: System error after computer shutdown during update

I wanted to restart my computer. The message "Updates are on their way" appeared. This took a long time and unfortunately I forced my computer to shut down. When I turned it on, a bluescreen appeared: Critical process died. Safe mode does not start. Startup Repair did not fix the error. In the command line I tried sfc /scannow /offbootdir... but I get the message "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". I also did a chkdsk. I tried system restore, but to no avail I have to run rstrui.exe /offline:C:\windows=active. Otherwise, when I try to restore the system,

Windows 10: "system thread exception not handled" error on shutdown

Hi,

I recently have run into a situation where my computer fails to shutdown properly. When I click the shutdown button everything goes as normal - the orange screen and the "shutting down" working wheel appears. The screen then goes black for a moment (normal
spot the system should power down) but then the Blue Screen of Death pops up.

Error is "system thread exception not handled" - and although the BSOD promises it the system does not reboot. I used WhoCrashed to look at the dump files but the it doesn't show any dumps/crashes from when these errors appear. Any suggestions or hints
on what steps to take next?
