  1. System Freeze after a random period of inactivity (supposedly)

    Hi all,

I didn't know where to put this thread, but because it has to do with system performance, I thought this might be the best place to post my issues with Win 10. Let me get straight to the point:
    • Up-to-date Windows 10 install (ver 1511 OS Build 10586.36)
    • I haven't tested it but it seems like when the computer becomes inactive after a period of time, the whole system freezes - the mouse isn't moving, the desktop remains static on the last windows that were there, the time remains static (it doesn't change), CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work. Only solution seems to be to a hard reboot.
    • In all other aspects the computer works fine: no virus (as determined by up-to-date version of Free Avast AV), SSD runs super fast, computer reboots, shuts down and goes to sleep perfectly. It's just when I am working on the computer and get sidetracked and when the computer becomes inactive, the computer freezes.
System Specs (other relevant aspects of my system can be viewed on my system specs page):
    • Custom Built: E6700 non-OC
    • 4 GB DDR2 RAM
    • GTX 970 (up to date driver: 361.43)
Any thoughts? Is there some sort of log that I can call up to show what is causing this stall/freeze/hang-up?

    Thanks again!

    :)

  2. Computer keeps freezing/hanging

The title says it all. My computer keeps freezing/hanging at random points and needs resetting by hitting the reset button. It even sometimes freezes after a period of inactivity which shouldn't happen.

I have used the Memory Diagnostic and /sfc scannow and no issues were found. In addition I have tried changing the power settings and it has made no difference.

    Why is this happening?

  5. I am pretty sure that it's random because the computer can enter screensaver and sleep mode just fine.

Have you tried looking at event viewer see if theres anything going on at the time of lock up (if you have a rough idea of when it happened) If you use the search bar and type event viewer then then select administrative events in custom views , It may flag up a corrupot driver trying to load . Obviously something is trying to kick in that is crashing your system

Also you could try setting your advanced power options to high performance for a while see if that solves it.

  7. Ok, I have looked at Event Viewer and I do remember that yesterday around 9pm PST, my system locked up. Looking up on Event Viewer the only thing I see around that time is when I hard rebooted the computer:

Also, my desktop is set to a custom "Samsung High Performance" option. It is similar to the default to the High Performance option, so I don't think that is the issue.
