  1. System icons is taskbar bouce left to right after Windows update

    Issue

The issue is that my system icons (volume, internet connection, battery, etc.) seem to be moving left and right continuously, "pushing" my application icons together. The issue starts right after the Language Preference icon and ends with the first application in my taskbar, right before the Task View icon. They are not moving vertically, just horizontally, and remain within the bounds of the taskbar. This has happened each time I have installed a Windows 10 update and ultimately I have had to system restore to a previous date pre-Windows update.

Some troubleshooting I've personally run through:

    1) Locking the taskbar (did nothing disabling and re-enabling the feature, even with restarts)

    2) Updating video and graphics drivers

    3) Disabling touchscreen (as mentioned this is a Dell touchscreen laptop so I figured maybe it was the touchscreen being faulty, but after disabling it and not having a fix I quickly ruled this out)

    4) I've read through the fourms and others have had this issue as well with seemingly no positive solution.

    5) I am moderately tech savvy.

    Any solutions would be appreciated.

    :)

System Icons in Taskbar Bouncing Left and Right?

    Hi Rob002,

There might be an application running on and off in the system's background that's why taskbar icons are rearranging from time to time. May we know the result after you perform a clean boot? Also may we ask for a screenshot of your taskbar.

In the meantime, can you try to toggle on Always show all icons in the notification area option in Windows settings. Kindly follow these steps:

    1. On your keyboard, press Windows + I.
    2. Choose Personalization.
    3. Click Taskbar.
    4. Under Notification area, press Select which icons will appear on the taskbar.
    5. Toggle on Always show all icons in the notification area.

After performing the steps above, check if issue persists.

    Keep us posted.

    System Icons on taskbar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

    • Click on the search bar on the taskbar.

    • Type system icons.

    • Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

    Hope it helps.

System icons is taskbar bouce left to right after Windows update

How to pin some icons to the left side and rest to the right side of the taskbar?

The ones on the left are the taskbar.
The ones on the right are the system tray.

Typically only certain apps can be pinned to the system tray. To access: Click Windows icon. Type Select Which Icons Appear on the Taskbar and click it. Drag the slider to on or off for those that are listed to show/hide them.

You can go a step further and Windows icon > Turn system icons on or off and have more options there.
