Windows 10: System image backup

Hey guys. Sorry if this ain't the proper section. I'm trying to back up a system image on windows 10 but every time it gives me an error saying the backup failed and that "The specific backup storage location has the shadow copy on another volume." (0x80780038)." I've looked up quite some fixes but none of them seems to work.

If you use File History be sure to have another backup method, like to the cloud using Google Drive which has a new Backup feature that gives you 15gb free and lets you designate the User folders you want sync'd in real time, and periodically drag your

Do yourself a favor and download free Macrium.

 

Hi IMHO I would forget the W10 back up feature and use a imaging program like Macrium Reflect. Macrium is very popular here on the forum.

donetao, thank you. I just literally installed and set windows up yesterday though, don't think anything's messed up. It's activated too if that has anything to do with it.

 

Hi I never got it to work on my W7 OS. That's why I suggested Macrium!

I have done hundreds of backups and restores using macrium. It is easy to use, fast, reliable, and free. Takes me a 2-3 minutes to image my OS drive. Windows image backup on the other hand....

 

Hi Geneo! Macrium is a fabulous program. I would never be without my Macrium. Even Steven Boots will tell you the back up feature in windows sucks. I've been there and done that. We can only suggest and give our best advise???

 

it seems that we all don't us Windows backup nowadays, especially when there are many good free backup tools out there. they usually perform better in backup and restore, saving you time and trouble.
I would also recommend macrium reflect free or easeus todo backup free.

 

I prefer to keep my images portable, and to do full images. Windows imaging is NOT portable, and does incremental imaging. There may be workarounds, but they add complexity and are unnecessary to me.
Macrium works fine for me. I don't have it in my system - simply made a "rescue" thumb drive.
I can restore my image in about 3 minutes, boot-to-boot, and have done so many times.
The actual restore runs in under a minute. It's about 15GB now.
