System image restore fails

I'm replacing the hard drive on my laptop since my original is full.

1. Using Windows' Backup and Restore, I created a system image.

2. Since I do not have a DVD drive, I created a Windows 10 install media (here) directly to a USB.

3. I boot up using the USB and attempt to restore the image.

I receive the following error -

Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer that has different firmware. The system image was created on a computer using BIOS and this computer is using EFI.

It's the same machine. I tried the same steps listed in this Microsoft Community question

here. Didn't work.

1. I went into the BIOS and disabled Legacy Support so it would boot up in UEFI.

2. And vice versa, re-enabled it.

3. Tried it with Secure Boot disabled as well.

I'm not understanding why this is happening as everything has been done on the same laptop.

Any ideas before I have to go out and purchase third party imaging/restore software?

Windows 10 System Image Restore

Finally managed to copy the Windows System image from my NAS to an HDD connected to my laptop using USB 2. Started up the 'dead' PC (not the laptop) using the Widow's Repair disk on DVD and connected the HDD with the system image using a USB caddy. Connected another new HDD where the original system disk was - so far so good? Followed the steps on the system repair disk which found the system image on the USB HDD and the restore process seemed to start ok? The process started restoring the c: drive but stopped almost immediately with the following message:- 'The system image restore failed. Error details: The volume does not contain a recognized filesystem. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. (0x800703ED)' In DISKPART the new HDD is listed as Disk 2 No Media Where to next ... ?

 

System Image Recovery Failure

Hi,

My Surface Pro 3 recently crashed and had to be formatted - I have an old system image that I am trying to restore from but keep getting an error message:

"The System image restore failed

Error details: Windows did not find any disks which it can use for recreating volumes present in the backup. Online disks, cluster shared disks or disks explicitly excluded by the user will not be used by Windows. Ensure that disks are online and no disks
are excluded by mistake. (0x80042414)"

I don't understand why it won't use the existing system image to restore my drive?

Any ideas?
