System instability with new processor / mobo

    Hi all.

I've recently upgraded my system from a Core i5 to the new Ryzen 5600X. Amazing performance but sadly the systems been very unstable. I'm running Windows 10 version 2004.

I've gotten both SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL BSODs. As well as random hangs and crashes.

I've explained away the hangs as overheating from my GPU: since the update, the fans never span up, and I guess it was over heating. But I still got the BSODs. I've since switched back to my original setup, we'll see how it goes.

To troubleshoot, I ran Memtest over several passes on my new RAM, with no failures detected. Disabled XMP, as I'd heard the new AMD processors have issues with it. Clean install of Windows and Graphics drivers, to no avail. I've attached the V2 log generation tool (but ran it with my old mobo / processor so might report wrong hardware) and a minidump from the most recent incident BSOD. I hope you guys can give me some insight.

It's also possible it's just a hardware issue on the new mobo, who knows. I just wanna play my games man!

    :)

  2. Changing my MOBO and CPU a

I'm doing PC upgrades and changes entirely for my new mini-itx build.

I'm not sure about how the process would work, but what are the appropriate steps I need to undertake before making my changes?

    • My personal data and files are backed up to my Onedrive, and have nothing to lose in terms of data.
    • I have an additional copy of Windows 10 (but would prefer not to use it in-case I do another PC build).
    • My MOBO and CPU upgrades are polar opposites of my current hardware:
      • OLD HARDWARE
        • Intel i5 6500
        • AsRock Killer MOBO
      • New Hardware
        • AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
        • Asus Strix X-470
This is my first time doing a particular change so guiding steps would be greatly appreciated! Things like how to wipe my hard-drive and reinstall Windows, etc.

You will have to buy windows license if you change the motherboard, unless you made the computer originally in the first place, or bought a license key.

System instability with new processor / mobo

Intel Gives Core i3 and Core i5 Dual-Core Processors K0 Stepping Update

Intel is giving some existing 32 nm "Clarkdale" based Core i3 and Core i5 processors an update. The processors will transition to the new K0 stepping from the existing C2 stepping. The parts that will be made on the K0 silicon are Core i3 models 530 (new sSPEC: SLBX7), 540 (new sSPEC: SLBTD) and Core i5 models 650 (new sSPEC: SLBTJ), 660/661 (SLBTK/SLBTB), 670 (SLBTL). Newer and upcoming models such as the i3-550, i3-560, i5-665K, and i5-680 are already being built on the K0 stepping die. Motherboards will require a BIOS update to support the new K0 stepping processors.

The K0 stepping change includes the following highlights:
    • New S-spec and MM numbers for the converting products
    • Extended CPUID will change from 0x00020652 to 0x00020655
    • Host RevID will change from 0x12 to 0x18
    • K0 stepping package is pin compatible with C2 stepping package
    • Adds Processor Context ID (PCID) support
The revised older SKUs that are built on K0 stepping will be market-available by October 16.
