Windows 10: System menus will not open. Reset This PC fails. SFC scans fails, DISM fails.

I'm not sure what is going on with my PC, everytime I go to open a new menu, the window opens for a brief second and immediately closes. Looking at the Events it shows an error with with system dll file. Going through the SFC scans and DISM scans they all immediately fail.


I gave up and tried just resetting the PC, that one fails. So it had me thinking maybe the hard drive was starting to fail.


I bought a new hard drive, and I would like to transfer my windows copy with a fresh install, but it turns out that the original windows that my PC is currently running is using windows 7, and I have no way in finding a product key. Any kind of transfer settings that I dig into immediately closes.


Is there anything that I can do?

.Net C++ SFC DISM System Reset all FAIL

I have Windows 10 64 bit. Problem started when installing iTunes, I get error message stating "an error occurred during the installation of assembly..."

Troubleshooting on Google leads me to try reinstall of Microsoft C++ 2005 SP1. Install fails with error 1935.

Troubleshooting on Google leads me to try reset of .NET framework. Cannot disable .NET framework. It does not show in installed programs and Turn Windows Features On and Off utility freezes showing "Please wait..." unto eternity. Reinstall of .Net framework
fails stating, ".NET Framework 4.6.1 or a later update is already installed on this computer."

Tried running SFC /scannow in command prompt as administrator. Failed with message "Windows could not perform the requested operation". Tried running scan from Safe Mode. Scan made it through the verification process then failed with message "Windows could
not perform the requested operation"

Tried running DISM cleanup in command prompt as administrator. Failed with message "Component store has been corrupted"

Tried running system reset. Failed with message "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made."

I've traveled as far down the rabbit hole as I know how. Help! Help! Please HELP!

P.S. This is why people prefer to use iOS devices. My iPhone and iPad don't do this kind of crap. I tell it what to do, and it does it plain and simple.

Thanks for your detailed response. These steps are to address the update issue. As you said, I can live with that since the OS is working.

My main concern is that SFC failed revealing that some files are corrupt. In particular the fhengine.dll. I dont want compromised system as my son uses to play online games. Mcafee seems to be forgiving a lot and finds nothing even if system has something
as happened a few weeks ago and I reinstalled win 10.

Do you or anybody see an issue with SFC and DISM as above ? I would at least like to fix the SFC issue.
