Windows 10: System Powers off after some time, rather than staying in Sleep Mode

Computer: HP Elitebook 840 G2 laptop
System: MS Windows 10 64 bit [Version 10.0.18362.418]

Problem: System will shutdown from sleep mode despite power settings that state no shutdown. This tends to happen after a couple of hours or more in Sleep Mode


I have done the following:

1) checked all my power settings - none of them state shutdown, all are "sleep"
2) unchecked turned on fast startup
3) turned off SSD sleep
4) updated Intel IMEI driver to version 11.6.0.1042 which windows says is the most up to date for this device

I have done all recommended but it suggests either getting a newer version of the IMEI driver or rolling back to a version 10 of it.

Before I go any further I wonder if there are any other suggestions?

For issues with sleep mode and power options follow the steps provided below.

Run the Power troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

• Open Control Panel.
• Type Troubleshooting in search and click
  Troubleshooting.
• Now type Power in the search option.
• Click on Power troubleshooter to run.

I would suggest you to try updating the Display driver and check if the issue persists. If you already have all the latest drivers from Windows updates, then I would suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's website, download and install the latest
drivers in compatibility mode and check.

Computer won't stay in sleep mode

Hi,

If the computer wakes up unexpectedly, it may be activated by timed action of the system or an application. To correct such issue, you can follow the steps below:

• Type Power options in the search box, then select it from the list.
• In the current power plan, click Change plan settings.
• Select Change advanced power settings.
• Under Power options, click on the plus sign for
  Sleep option.
• Change the preference under Allow wake times from
  Enable in Disable.
• Click OK.
