  1. “System” process uses 30%cpu when idle

Sometimes the “system” process ( not to be confused with system idle process) will start to use 30% cpu when idle for about 5 minutes. Once I move my mouse, it stops. If I leave it takes about 20 minutes before it stops. I remember I did a complete Windows reinstall (deleted partitions and formatted ssd) when it first happened but it still does it. I have also done scans with malwarebytes, ad/wcleaner and hitman pro. However they have come back clean. At this point I am not sure what it could be and worried that I may have something in my drive.

Here is a photo of task manager:

    My specs:

    i3-9100f Gigabyte b365m- ds3h motherboard MSI 1660ti gpu Sandisk 500g ssd Toshiba 1000g hardrive

    Any advise would be wonderful.

    System idle process spike

Although you may have a problem that is causing fps drops, "System Idle Process" isn't what's causing it.

When "CPU usage" for System Idle Process is high, that means that your CPU is not doing much useful work.

    Idle, noun:

    • not working or active; unemployed; doing nothing: idle workers.
    • not spent or filled with activity: idle hours.
When System Idle Process shows as 30%, what's taking up the majority of the rest of the CPU cycles? That's probably the source of the problem.

  3. System Idle Process CPU Allocation?

    Hi,

I am Sumit, an Independent advisor and a Microsoft MVP here to help.

System Idle Process, as the name suggests is a process that indicates CPU is idle and is not being used, aka is at rest. This is done to totalize CPU usage to 100 between the processes.

So you do not have to worry about anything.

System Idle Process High CPU Usage

The system idle process tells you for how much of the time the CPU is twiddling its thumbs. The higher the figure, the better! A totally idle CPU would show 100% for the system idle process.
