    System re-set to fix non-functional USB Ports


    Hi all,My USB ports and a SSD card drive stopped working when jump drives/SD card is inserted. I get the message that the drive not recognized and give the format the drive option. These devices work on the other computers, so devices are fine. I do not think that there is a mechanical defect in the USB ports either, as mouse, portable keyboard, tablets and one external drive are still working on the same ports. I tried various suggestions mentioned in the community and internet. In desparation, I want to do the system re-set, but I do not want to go through the long and extreme trouble, if i

    • What happens when you try to connect a device?
    • Are you receiving any error messages?
    • Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

    USB 2.0 Ports Stopped working

    Hello,

    I recently noticed my USB 2.0 ports have stopped working, but my USB 3.0 port is functioning perfectly.

    Steps i have tried:

    - Restarting

    - Searching for device changes in Device manager

    - running troubleshooter

    all these suggested fixes didn't remedy the issue, its a bit of an inconvenience that i only have one functioning USB port

    To fully isolate where this problem is coming from, please answer the following:

    • Have you tried connecting the peripheral devices to another computer to check if they will function?
    • How old is the laptop?

    You can find additional things to try to fix USB port problems on this
    page.

    We also suggest you run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
    in Windows 10. Here are the steps:

    • Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
    • Type Troubleshooting then press Enter.
    • On the left side, click View all.
    • Select Hardware and Devices.
    • Click Next and see if it will find any problems.
