System Reserved partition just showed up after installing hard drive

So I just installed the hard drive of my past PC into my new one. This is where I'm going to sound like a complete idiot. I decided to just format the drive once it's installed in the new computer. I did NOT take windows off of it before installing it. My intention was not to use the OS on that hard drive, but to use it as one to store programs on this new PC. So I go into windows, which I have windows 10, and I format the hard drive, as it still has windows on it. It formats fine, but when I came back to my PC after the old hard drive was formatted, I saw a new hard drive partition called System Reserved. I looked up on it, and saw how important it was, but my question was, was it for the windows 10 on the old hard drive? or windows 10 on my current one. I also saw how it's supposed to be 500MB on windows 10 if it shows up, but mine was 99.9MB, and had nothing in it. So my question is, is this the System Reserved partition for the now deleted windows 10, or is it for my current windows 10? Can I delete it, and why is it less than 500MB?

    :)

"Windows 10 couldn't be installed - we could update the system reserved partition"

I think you mean "could not update", not "could".

    Suggestions:

    • Disconnect any other hard drives.
    • Run chkdsk /f on the System Reserved partition. You'll have to do this from the CMD prompt in Repair Mode.
    • Initially there were reports of some System Reserved partitions being too small for the upgrade. Search for details if the first two suggestions fail.

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

how to remove "System Reserved partition" from Defrag?

    Hello,

    To answer your questions:

    • When you install Windows 10 on a clean formatted disk, it first creates a partition on the disk at the start of the hard disk. This partition is called the System Reserved Partition. Next it use the balance unallocated disk space to create your system drive
and install the operating system. To see the System Reserved Partition, you will have to open Disk Management.
    • To remove "System Reserved partition" it would be easy to just leave it be. Windows hides it by default instead of creating a drive letter for it. Most people will never notice they have a System Reserved partition, and Windows will only show it to you
when you use disk-partitioning software. This partition is mandatory if you use BitLocker or want to use BitLocker in the future. Every drive is made ready for BitLocker while installing Windows.

Let us know so that we can further help.
