Windows 10: System Restore screen not recognising correct password

At "System Restore" screen, the machine isn't recognising my Microsoft Account password. I've tried the PC's PIN as well but nothing works. What should I do? It all started after Windows Update failed to install an update and now my PC keeps randomly restarting automatically. I've also received a message of error on [C:] and error on Kernel Memory.

When your (correct) Password will not work for System Restore

Many people have said their correct password will not working for system restore.

I have found this will work.

Start your PC and DO NOT LOGIN with your PIN!!!! only Login with your PASSWORD...

Then restart the computer with holding the SHIFT key and it will load into the menu and options. Navigate to System Restore.

When asked now for the password it will work as the original login was not with a pincode but password.

Microsoft account doesn't accept reset correct password

We understand the difficulties you are facing while login to the PC using your Microsoft account.



In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to sign with the correct login credential in Safe mode. Also check if you are connected the PC to the internet, preferably through Ethernet cable.

1. At the login screen click on the power symbol.
   
2. Hold SHIFT key in the keyboard and click Restart.
   
3. After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.
   
4. Select advanced options under
   Troubleshoot screen.
   
5. Click on Startup Settings
   
6. Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to Safe Mode
   
7. Login with the correct password using the onscreen keyboard.

Correct password is ‘incorrect’

In line with your concern, I would suggest to try using all the passwords you've used in the past and check if it lets you proceed starting in Safe Mode. Also, to better assist you with your concern, I'd like to know the following:

• Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
2. Click OK.

• What is the make and model of your computer?
• What is the error message that you're getting when you've experienced the blue screen error?
