system restored no image found, how can i go back to windows 10 pro and not 7. Have had a bad week had some work on laptop thought i transferred everything to harddrive before they restored it. when they restored it they just put a file on desktop they restored from. me not knowing or thinking restore my system myself due to it draggin and freeze after thier help and have now found out i have no back up on my external drive or other laptop itself. what do i do? acer told me it would not restore back to 7 which is what it was prior bc it only really got used for work but said i had no choice

Unable To Restore System Image Files On Windows 7 Pro

I have long depended on the System Image Restore function in Windows 7 Pro. Yesterday, I had need to use that function and found that System Image Restore is no longer functional on a machine that I successfully used it on 90 days ago. Today I checked eight
additional Win 7 Pro machines in two different locations and all had the same condition.

When I choose All Programs, Maintenance, Back-up and Restore and choose Restore My Files the last system image back-up no longer appears in the Restore Files window. When I click on Choose a Different date, a list of backup files appears and I am able to
select a back-up date and click OK. Although, that backup does not populate the Restore Files window and the next button on it does not go live. We save system image back-ups on a USB, external hard drive.

Because I used this function successfully 90 days ago and the issue exits in multiple locations on multiple machines I'm lead to believe this may be the result of an MS Windows update rolled out in the last 90 days.

Can you confirm that the issue is a result of an update released in the last 90 days?

If so, is an update planned to resolve the issue?

If this issue is a result of a recent update and no update is planned to resolve the issue, can you suggest a work around to re-image the machine?

Do you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations or guidance in this regard?

 

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

 

Win 7 image restore breaks ability to see Win 10 image backups

I have a multi-boot system, XP Pro (32 bit), XP Pro X64 (64 bit), Win 7 Pro (64 bit), Win 10 Pro (64 bit). Each OS is on a separate hard drive and partition. The C: partition is boot only (no operating system on it).

I did a system image backup from Win 10 and also from Win 7. Once I do a Win 7 image restore using Win 7 repair (dvd), the Win 10 images backups no longer appear in the list of backups if I later run Win 10 repair or Win 7 repair.

The workaround for this bug is to do a system image backup from Win 7 and include the Win 10 partition in the Win 7 image backup (to Win 7, the Win 10 partition is a "data" partition). The the Win 7 repair will restore the Win 10 partition unless restore to "non-system" partitions is turned off. I confirmed this works by formatting both the Win 7 and Win 10 partitions before doing a repair / restore test.

What I don't understand is what the Win 7 restore changes to my system that prevents the Win 10 backup system images from appearing in the list of image backups. The Win 10 image folders are still present on my hard drive(s).
